Really hope this can be the start of a recovery for Boggoand see him climb back up the rankings. We saw last year that he could nearly make it into the top 100 and what he is capable of. So far this year it has been so frustrating.

true DD, he just needs to find some consistentcy, across the board i mean, both in individual matches and in whole events etc.

i feel its going to be hard for him to move much up the rankings till after queens, more likley down (unless he has a clay revelation), but with some good health and the consistency he can get back on track and challenge for a top 100 spot again later in the year.

i know it early, but do you think he will get a wimby wc? if he isnt ranked inside the top 150 then he isnt due one by rights but i still feel he has something to offer there.

craig/tbarm who has been awol here recently has posted on mtf tha ram is coming back from injury which may give al a better chance in the dubs.

Great win for Boggo but to be honest he should be beating the likes of Reynolds anyway so let's not get too carried away with this. Still, it's better than what he has been doing and is a good start to the week when he needs to go deep.

I'd be looking for 2 QFs over the next 2 weeks to limit the damage to his ranking, and I think he'll be seeded next week so that is a definately possibility (and the good news is the next week where he will enter there are 6 challengers so even if he loses in the next round he should be able to sneak into 1 of them)

Hopefully he can pick up a decent amount of points from the 3 or 4 hard court events he's playing and then maybe 1 or 2 wins on the clay which would hopefully put him around 180 going into the grass court season (and I'd still think he'd get a WC to Queens, Nottingham and Wimbledon.... mainly as there's no-one else to give them too and I think he'd have the best shot out of all the Brits of winning a match (but is also the most likely to implode))

I agree FD, if he can go into the grass season (why do we call it a season it about 3 weeks long!) at 180 then i think he can have a great year. lets hope its so.

on the match Reynolds has improved a lot too i think, ok safin isnt what he used to be but its still impressive.

i didnt quite understand your comment about 6 events next week. he (and jb) are down to play tallahassee already next week. then another also in the states in baton rouge the week after.

i would hope he will get the grass wc's. he deserves queens after last's year performance.
i worry that at wimby it could be a case of the lta seeming to be tough amid all the meida specualtion of us being rubbish at tennis etc that springs up at the time oft he year, al has been a scapegoat often enough in the past for it not to suprise me.

Reynolds did well to recover in that match as he wasted MPs at 4-5 and 5-6 before winning in a TB, so it took a lot from him to get over the fact he may have blown his chance against Safin.

What I meant was that if he lost his next match and his ranking stayed at around 220 or lower when his points come off next week, the next set of challengers for which he would have to enter with his ranking that low have 6 challengers in the week so even though they are all on clay, he should still be able to get into a challenger (and the following week in the same) - the events in 3/4/5 weeks time have a lot of challengers so even with a lower ranking of 220ish he should get into 1 of the challengers

I can see him not getting a WC, but if he doesn't who would get one? Baker, Bloomers, Goodall will possibly get them, so may Skupski, Ward, Kasiri and Slabinsky but in all honestly Boggo would probably beat them all on Grass and would be the only one I'd think would have a chance against a top 50 player

oh right, i get you, good point.

yeah so those events are the 5th/12th May then its RGQ followed by the grass so maybe it wont be 'so' bad.

if you dont get a wimby WC it means that you cant really play Nottingham either. hopefully he will get a queens one at least. i guess we will see closer to the time, but it would be a shame as he can win a match or 2 at wimby with a bit of luck.

I think it would be rather insulting to pay for Boggo to be coached by Brad Gilbert (albeit by default) but not back him to play in his home tournaments by giving him wildcards. I appreciate that the decisions on these matters are not given by the same people but there seems little point in supporting him with one hand and taking away with the other.

I agree, I don't think (even?) the LTA would be that petty. It's not as if they have a huge choice of potential main draw matchwinners to choose from in any case!
