Karlovic beat Rik De Voest 6-3, 7-6(2) today. Also, the winner of this match, will not face, as expected, Andy Roddick, the 6th seed, he has fallen by the wayside, losing 4 & 4 to Tommy Haas.
They have only met once, Andy beat him in the San Jose final last year, but it took a third set tiebreak to do it.
I gather the IW surface is rather slow. Will that help Andy with the Karlovic serve, or will the fact that it is apparently also high-bouncing be in Ivo's favour?
Either way on I hope a) that it is not a very early match! and b) that Andy's own serve will be working.
I rather like Big Ivo and his all-round game seems to have improved so that he is no longer just serve, but I hope he loses this one.
If Andy can beat him on the fast San Jose surface then he can take him on this stuff. Big Ivo jumped on any short second serves last time and it forced Andy to serve more 1st serves...he needs to do the same.

Well, he has a chance to do some more acclimatising today: he & Booty take on Gasquet & Lindstedt in the third match on Court 4, after two WS matches (18.00 GMT KO) & a suitable rest for Gasquet, who will earlier have done battle with Chela in the first match on Stadium 2.
Yup, Karlovic seems like a really nice, humble fellow, though he never used to talk much because of his really bad stammer. I wonder if this has improved recently?
I think Ivo will be annoyed with having to meet Murray this early on - Andy is one of the players best equipped to deal with the massive Karlovic serve. Still, I doubt Andy will get more than a couple of breaks so his serve needs to be consistent if not excellent.
could be a tricky one....commentators on bet365 didnt give big Ivo much chance but the dry desert heat really suits net-rushers, makes the balls really fly through the air.....and worryingly Andy really didnt pass at all well yesterday by his standards....Melzer did volley superbly but would have expected Andy to have passed him/forced volley errors more
think Andy will win but will be a horribly close one...possibly 3rd set breaker
