Hi guys, I watched a lot of the tennis this morning so can give you a brief summary of results.
Sarah Borwell won really comfortably, Olivia Scarfi won 6-4,6-0 Goodall won 6-2,6-1 played great again Broady lost 4-6,4-6 Windley lost in three (what a waste of a golden opportunity 3-0 up in third) Marks lost in straight and was outclasssed Brown was a set up on Elliott but 5-2 down in second. Brown playing really well Thomas was a set and 5-2 down when I left looking pretty ordinary Jennifer Ren was 2-3 in the first but looking pretty good and staying with her higher ranked opponent.
Thanks for posting Fitzy. It must have been really frustrating not to get anywhere with the break points, but you must be pleased with how you kept it that close for that long. It sounds like he just had another level to go to when he needed to, as you'd expect from someone ranked that much higher and in good form. You'd be doing that to most players ranked below you these days too, I bet!
When we see a player not playing one week after playing nearby the previous week, we tend to wonder if they're injured, need a break or whatever - it never really dawns on us that they might have run out of money (though unlike most of the population, we DO realise that the LTA isn't giving big handouts to the players!), I guess players needing to take time out to work to fund their attempts to climb up the rankings must be more common than we think, unless they've been lucky enough to get a sponsor or lucky enough to have rich parents who are prepared to fund them.
Anyway, I think it's really cool that you're prepared to do all these different things and save up to go to tournaments. You're definitely doing the right thing. Whatever happens, you'll be able to look back and say you tried your best, and I reckon that's an attitude that could take you quite a long way up the rankings.
One thing that intrigues me having read this is what made you go to Nigeria instead of somewhere closer? Was it funded by the LTA or a sponsor, or did you decide to spend the money to go there because thought you were more likely to get points there ... or is the accommodation and food there so cheap that it doesn't work out much more expensive than playing GB Futures if you can spread the cost of the flights over more than one week? (don't worry if you don't want to answer that for any reason, I've no business asking, it's just intriguing what makes players decide to go for certain tournaments instead of others!)

Andrej Martin (Svk) bt Frederic Jean-Claude (Fra) 6-4 6-4
Joshua Goodall (Gbr) bt Pierre Metenier (Fra) 6-2 6-1 - the one we already had
Ken Skupski (Gbr) bt Miles Kasiri (Gbr) 7-6 (7-5) 6-0 - wow! ... I wondered if Ken might manage this, but didn't see the bagel coming (Miles is more likely than not to be top 500 after Miami anyway btw)
Ralph Grambow (Ger) bt Edward Seator (Gbr) 6-2 6-3 - something tells me Edward might be back on his travels looking for outdoor events sooner rather than later

Yep, Steven, Edward's entered for Turkey next week.
Just a quick note, it appears on the LTA website that Maniel Bains didnt have the LL spot and it was instead an Israeli called Steele that took it, so Maniel didnt lose in the first round
Maniel was definitely on the original draw (and was seeded higher in qualifying) so I guess for whatever reason he didn't take up his place and that's wwhy Steele got it.

Yeah it is, but its the people that learn from their mistakes that make it up the rankings. It is the right thing that i am doing but as it is in tennis, alot of people have parents backing them or a sponsor. There of course are alot that are struggling away like me and doing all they can to get money here and there, i can only speak from what i am doing.
Regarding nigeria, i have got my own savings fund, that i have had since i was born, sort of all the money i have saved, and that payed for the nigeria trip, none of it was funded by the LTA. Let me tell you nigeria is more expensive that england!! There werent closer that i felt were right at the time, although they were 15's, i thought i had a better chance of getting more points.
So yeah, unsure about what to do about jersey and exmouth really. Will have to think fast!
i know in the past companies like Rover used to sponser players. i know they helped out boggo a lot at the start. is there nothing like that around nowadays?
i am sure you know as well as the rest of us getting sponsorship is hard, especially as the coverage of the lower levels of tennis isnt great. Are there any local compaines that you could approach to help out?
