QF: Alex Slabinsky WR 398 v (5) Andrea Stoppini (ITA) WR 326 (CH 219 in 2005)
Stoppini holds a 2-0 record against Boggo (Canada AMS qualifying last year, Orleans Challenger the year before, both in straights) but is 0-2 v Bloomers, 0-1 v Marray and 1-1 v Josh. He retired from his last match against a Brit, which was against Dan Cox.
His record in Futures so far this year is SF - QF - WON - QF - R/UP, so he's a formidable opponent for Slabba.

QF: Alex Slabinsky WR 398 lost to (5) Andrea Stoppini (ITA) WR 326 by 7-5 7-6(?)
Very close sets! It's sad that Slabba lost but having beaten two players ranked quite close to him and narrowly lost to someone in the low 300s who has been a fair bit higher, it's clear that Slabba has grown into his c. 400 ranking.
He's in Jersey next week.

That's not a bad week for Slabba and shows that his ranking is pretty much where it should be at the moment, and losing a close match to Stoppini who seems to be in some form at the moment is a good effort
Hopefully he can go and win Jersey next week and pick up the supposed easier points next week to continue to move up the rankings and get towards that top 300
good stuff from Slabba.....Stoppini beat Agassi a couple of years ago and without the injuries he'd be a lot higher......spoke to him after the win against Wauters, forehand was really on song this wk
still nothing of note for him to defend till mid-June so with some more last 8 performances (and he can play on clay), a ranking of 300-350 looks possible by the grass season
