Deden, a German, may be WR 1098 but beat the no. 2 seed (WR 662) 5 & 2 in QR2 and then double bagelled a Romanian WR 1072 today who had beaten a ranked Polish player 3 & 2 in the previous round.

Dan has qualified for the main draw with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win against Germany's Michael Deden, who had come through the first three rounds of qualifying without losing a set. For more Deden details, see Steven's post above.
In the first round proper, Dan has avoided the worst draws for Qualifiers (v. the number 1 and 2 seeds), but has also missed out on the two best, against Turkish Wildcards; he has drawn Belgian Yannick Mertens, ranked 598 in the world - a real challenge for Dan, but not an insuperable one.

Hey, that 'Edited' line above is rather impressive, given that the time is now15.19!! Have our website's clocks gone forward in conjunction with those in the USA, which moved on at the weekend - or is it just an error? ... or maybe we're on European time?
Yes, our clocks have moved in line with the USA - exactly the same has happened on the Rusedski board.
That's an excellent win by Dan, on clay as well, no less. Unfortunately, his R1 opponent, Mertens, has tended to win Futures R1 matches recently. He reached the QFs in Tipton about 6 weeks ago, though he managed to avoid any Brits there. He has played against GB players just three times, beating Myles Blake twice in 2006 (one 3-setter, one ret.) and losing to David Sherwood in 2005.

Well done to Dan for qualifying, but I'd wouldn't be too confident that he will add another ranking point to his collection this week. Toughish draw for him, but the fact he's won 3 matches already should give him some confidence

Match to be played no earlier than 13.30 local time, so 11.30 here.
