Week 12 - Futures F11 (10k) - Castelldefels, Spain - Wardy seals a place in the top 500!

No Rob Dee cry but there is some GB interest in qualifying and we should find that James Ward is playing his 11th tournament in 12 weeks when the main draw comes out.

QR2: David Rice WR 1255 v (q13) David Estruch (ESP)

Estruch is the guy who has a hat-trick of wins against Rob Dee - 2 & 0, 1 & 0 and 1 & 0. He has lost to Morgan Phillips a couple of times and partnered him in doubles.

Good draw for James. He's in a quarter with (6) Poch-Gradin and (4) Ruiz-Cadenas

The points from here won't go on until after Miami and James should be top 500 at that stage anyway, because in the same way that 1 week of tournaments going on and none coming off stopped 53 points being enough this week, 2 weeks going on and 3 weeks (of Futures, at least) coming off at the end of Miami should make 53 points enough again. Obviously, another point here would make absolutely sure.

Edit: I think James now has 18 counting tournaments, so winning R1 won't make any difference to his total, though it might help the next time he has points to defend. (in April)

Edward and Miles have a point each to come off, so they still need to get at least a point in the next two weeks to join him.

It'd be nice for him to have a good run this week as his results on Clay have been poor so far this year and he certainly isn't a bad clay courter

They're through to the QFs, too, having beaten Andrés Garriga Rivero & Santiago Villegas (VEN/COL) easily earlier, 2 & 3! clap.gif

A lot closer than he'd want it to be but at least he got the job done and won the match
