RE: Week 11/12 - WTA Tier 1 Pacific Life Open - Indian Wells, California, USA

Anne goes *4-5 and 30-40 down, could see that coming.

But just when you thought it was going to be even more predictable than the exo (Rog keeps humping up balls for Pete to slam dunk, not staged at all, no ....), Anne holds and breaks to love!!

*6-5

Fed's now insisted Pete be given a point that Fed had won. At least they're not being subtle any more!

Normal service resumed at IW - Anne double-faulted to give Bremond a bp and we're in a tiebreak.

1-0 Bremond hold
1-1 Anne hold
2-1 Anne hold
2-2 Bremond hold
3-2 Anne m/break biggrin wonder how long she'll hold onto that one
3-3 m/break Bremond bleh quick answer to above question
4-4 jumped the 4-3 point
5-4 Anne m/break biggrin please please hold on this time
5-5 m/break Bremond bleh no chance cry
6-5 Anne - ACE smile - set point
7-5 Anne m/break biggrin and SET!! biggrin - all is forgiven evileye

Forgiven, but not for long, as she immediately goes to 0-40 on her serve. cry
Back to deuce! biggrin
Down bp for the 4th time in this game. cry
... and broken ashamed

Meanwhile, at the exo, it's a 2nd set tiebreak, as predicted at the start of the 2nd by everyone on MTF. biggrin

*0-2. Bremond holds to deuce.

Sampras wins the t/b, as also predicted ...

Easier? I think she thought you meant for Bremond. ashamed

Anne is self-destructing, 0-3* down in the 2nd. bleh

A chink of light as Anne gets a couple of bps, but Bremond shuts her out and it's 0-4* cry

Anne wonthe next game but eventually lost the 2nd set 1-6. ashamed

1-1 in the 3rd.

Meanwhile, Fed somehow managed to let Sampras win 5 games in a row to lead 5-2 in the 3rd, having the desired effect on the New York crowd. It's 5-5 now, as you might have guessed! doh

A second t/b having been nicely contrived at the exo, Fed wins it 8-6 to take the match by 2 sets to 1 and everyone's happy ... yawn

Anne has just gone a break down in the final set - 2-4* - she needs a bit of that Fed magic now!

*2-5 deuce - can she at least make Bremond serve it out?

MP Bremond, but Anne holds on after numerous deuces. smile

3-5*, Bremond serving for the match.

Anne storms to 0-40 and takes the third of her BPs.

*4-5, back on serve, I fear possibly not for long ...

... but she held for 5-5 ... and 6-6 ... and we're in a 3rd set tiebreak! smile

1-0 Anne m/break biggrin will she hand it right back like in the last t/b?
1-1 m/break Bremond bleh doh!! ashamed
2-1 Anne holds
2-2 Bremond holds - can't see Anne winning 2 service points in a row in a 3rd set t/b, so hopefully ...
2-3 Bremond holds, everything crossed
3-3 Anne holds
3-4 Bremond m/break bleh don't say I didn't warn you cry
3-5 Bremond holds, last chance now, I feel
4-5 Anne m/break biggrin
5-5 Anne holds - my, this is tense!
6-5 Anne proves me wrong at the second time of asking smile and it's MP Anne on Bremond's serve!
6-6 Bremond holds cry
7-6 Anne m/break biggrin - match point no. 2, on her own serve this time
8-6 Anne holds and it's GAME SET & MATCH - come on!! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Go Anne! That really did get tense there she did great saving the mp. Lets hope she can make a real push and get herself into the main draw Katie too.

Thanks for the scoring guys. What a great comeback from Anne. So we have multiple Brits in the final qualifying round of a WTA event. Sound familiar?

Faith restored in Anne and Katie. Well done girls for battling through but glad I wasn't around during Anne's match, only awake to see the result.  smile

Summary

QR1: (q15) Katie O'Brien WR 124 beat Selima Sfar (TUN) WR by 6-3 7-6(6) smile
QR1: (q20) Anne Keothavong WR 132 beat Severine Bremond (FRA) WR 148 by 7-6(5) 1-6 7-6(6) smile

Although both Katie and Anne were higher-ranked than their opponents, Bremond was ranked 34 just over a year ago, while Sfar hit a career high of 75 in 2001. Anne really held her nerve well in that 3rd set when it really mattered, I'm happily amazed! biggrin

FQR: (q15) Katie O'Brien WR 124 v Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (CZE) WR 156 - 3rd on Court 8, maybe about 20.00 GMT
FQR: (q20) Anne Keothavong WR 132 v (q10) Galina Voskobaeva (RUS) WR 113 - 4th on Court 5, maybe about 21.30 GMT

Zahlavova Strycova was ranked as high as 55 in 2004, when she was 18, while Voskobaeva has also been in the top 100, with a career high of 84 in 2006.
