I thought it was 17 for Andy now, but news outlets say it is 18.
It's 17 - OEM said 18 but he's including the walkover against Tursunov in Shanghai and walkovers where one or other player didn't even take to the court are by convention never included in winning streaks.
If other news outlets are reporting it too, then either they got it from him or he got it from one of them or they all got it from a Paris press release (GEMs!), the usual case of the media feeding on each other without checking for themselves.
I'd end with the comment "amateurs!" ... but the problem is, they're the ones who are meant to be the pros!

On the ITF's player of the month feature for March, which was of course about our old friend and Brit-killer Rui Machado, they mentioned that his winning streak was the 6th longest ever in Futures main draws.
You can't tell us that and leave us hanging as to who the top 5 are, I thought, so I emailed them and asked and got an impressively quick reply. Well, 2nd-5th are not much higher than Machado's streak, but the all-time record is an astonishing 39-match winning streak by Eduardo Schwank.
"Here is the data you enquired about. As you can see, all the winning streaks have now come to an end with the exception of Konstantinos Economidis, who has not played a Futures match since his last Futures win.
All Time Top 10 players Futures Singles Maindraw win streak
Pos. Player Nation Wins Win streak ongoing 1 Schwank, Eduardo (ARG) 39 N 2 Rusevski, Predrag (MKD) 27 N 3 Lee, Hyung-Taik (KOR) 26 N 4 Economidis, Konstantinos (GRE) 25 Y 5 Rojer, Jean-Julien (AHO) 24 N 6= Machado, Rui (POR) 23 N 6= Rascon-Lope, Juan-Luis (ESP) 23 N 6= Recouderc, Laurent (FRA) 23 N 6= Trimmel, Clemens (AUT) 23 N 6= Villagran, Cristian (ARG) 23 N"
These streaks work slightly differently to the GB records earlier on this thread, in that qualifying wins are ignored and losses in higher-level events don't break the streak.
Schwank's streak started with him winning 2 Futures in Argentina in August 2006 then 2 more in Bolivia in September 2006. He then played Challengers for a few months, before returning to Futures in April-June 2007, winning 3 more titles in Argentina then reaching the Final in Italy where he was beaten by Prpic. His longest overall winning streak in that period was 24, made up of the first 4 Futures in 2006 plus three qualifying wins and one main draw win in the Montevideo Challenger.
I wonder what other stats like this they hold ...
I don't think anyone has broken this record since I stopped keeping track? Marsel Ilhan is on a 30 match winning streak, and there are quite a few Turkish Futures in November and December.
(Activeboard's search feature is just horrible. Ultimately I had to use Google to find this post.)

Got bored this evening so I was just trying to check back and see if I had got my Busta stats right, when I came across these comments

5 Futures in a row is very impressive. What's the record, though? I was thinking Eric Prodon but whilst he did have a fairytale summer in 2007, when he reached 10 finals in a row (3 of them Challengers), the greatest streak of Futures he managed was a paltry 2.
The record is 8, Arnau Brugues-Davi last year (previous to that, it had been 7 by Eduardo Schwank a few years earlier), though there were Challenger/ATP losses in between, i.e. he won 8 consecutive Futures entered.
It was the very last comment on the Cartagena thread (Week 9). So it appears from as though Mr Arnau Bruges-Davi may well have broken the 39 match win streak.
