It seemed really silly to have nothing about Andy's progress on the site so I have waffled on a bit, just to have something there. Anybody who can do proper match reports, please feel free to delete and replace it!
I can't remember how to work with Freewebs and it'll take me some time to learn that, which I can't spare now. Can someone please post it for me? If yes, then thanks, or else I'll do it later tonight.
Juniors Review - Week 21
Robson impresses as three British players reach the doubles finals
14 year old Laura Robson (pictured) continued her impressive run on European clay with a quarterfinal appearance at the Trofeo Bonfiglio in Italy, an ITF 18 and under event.
Although this was the Bisham Abbey based Robson's first shot at a Grade A event, she has probably given us a good indication of what is to come in the next few years as she took out seventh seed Elena Chernyakova of Russia, the world number 20, by 6-4 6-3 in the first round. She followed it with an even more impressive 5-7 7-5 7-6(5) win over Nicole Riner of Switzerland, who is ranked 427 in the women's game and a relatively easier 6-1 6-4 win over Nicole Bartnik of the USA. In the quarterfinals she lost 7-6(4) 6-4 to Serbian Bojana Jovanovski, the world number 8, who is more than two years her senior and ranked 75 places ahead of her.
In the doubles tournament, Robson teamed up with former 14 and under European Junior Champion, Richel Hogenkamp of the Netherlands. They reached the finals, where they lost to Dutch pairing Arantxa Rus and Lesley Kerkhove by 6-0 6-4.
In the boys' doubles tournament, Marcus Willis and Neil Pauffley reached the final where they lost to top seeds Cesar Ramirez of Mexico and Henrique Cunha of Brazil by 6-2 6-1. This is the seventh time in the last twelve months that Britain's top Junior pairing of Willis and Pauffley has reached a final together.
Wimbledon Entry List Announced
In past it was frequently complained that Britain was not having enough Juniors in the top 50, which is a rank that normally ensures participation in the 18 and under Slams. And just three years back, we did not have even a single British player in the boys' or girls' main draw of Wimbledon who got there by right. In stark contrast, this year we will have at least three boys and two girls who will be there without the aid of wild cards.
Laura Robson's jump from 83 to 60 was easily the most impressive increase in the ITF rankings of the British players. She is currently the only 1994 born player in the top 200, which is extremely impressive despite Robson having the advantage of being born in January. Neil Pauffley goes up by 6 places to 64.
Liam Broady's inactivity from the 14 and under tour sees him slip one place to number 3 in Europe. Jessica Ren, on the other hand, goes up by 12 places to number 6, after the points from the Category 1 final in the Czech Republic that she reached the week before last were added on Thursday.
Sorry I've not been around for ages to help out with the site, but I've got some time now if you still need help. Someone will need to PM me the log-in details though as I've forgotten them!
