Unfortunately Van der Merwe beat Skupski 6-2 6-4 but Ken has to be admired for trying this challenger instead of sticking to futures all the time.

Good effort Ken! You're still the man! Take the doubles title home to Liverpool lad!

Come on BLoomers.

shame Skupski couldn't cause the upset but as Steven said it would've been quite a big upset so can't be too disappointed with that.

Go Bloomers in the FQR and looking forward to seeing them together in the doubles draw.

Kindlmann, whom Bloomers is 6-3 up against in the FQR, was ranked as high as 130 in 2004 (though that was the only year he finished inside the top 200), now 336. He knocked out the other seed in this section and he last played a Brit in 2006, beating Boggo in straight sets in Graz.

Before that, his previous two matches against Brits were a straight sets win against Mackin on his way to winning the Oberstaufen Challenger in 2004 and another win against Mackin in 2001 - a double bagel that time!

Bloomers has been on the other side of the net from him once, when he teamed up with Robin Haase in Wrexham last year to beat Kindlmann & Knittel 4 & 1.

Possible R1 draws for qualifiers (unless anyone else has withdrawn) are as follows, with the first seeded player who could be faced after the ->.

Matthias Bachinger (GER) WR 198 -> (7) Huta-Galung
Michail Elgin (RUS) WR 207 -> (4) Smeets
(WC) Peter Gojowczyk (GER) WR 364 -> (5) Beck
(8) Simon Stadler (GER) WR 194

None of them would be particularly bad draws, but Gojowczyk would be preferable, even if he was the Futures player of the month last month, taking over from Slabba.

There are 5 Q/LL spots Steven
Added possible opponent and preferred choice is (WC)Stefan Seifert (525) but my money is on Simon Stadler simply because Richard met him in round 2 here last year

Skupski and Bloomfield draw a WC pairing in Dubs r1. Should be a winning start!
