Dare I give a direct answer to that question and risk putting a hex on you? Actually it's not completely clearcut anyway
Put it this way, 53 points off 16 tournaments would currently be enough for 498th, so it might be touch and go depending on what happens to the people around you, but you don't have anything coming off before this week's points are due to go on the list, so there's a chance, yes.
Talking of people around you, James Ward is effectively on 52 points before tomorrow's R1 match in Faro, but he already has 16 counting tournaments, so he'd be a place behind you if you ended up on the same number of points.
Good luck anyway, and don't worry, you can carry on not caring about it, we'll do that for you!

National tennis official expresses sadness over the early exit of home players ... quick to defend the national tennis association and blame the players for not playing enough overseas or practising enough ... says "how many of them can you see on the court practicing; they lack confidence and are not ready to burn their energy" ... implores home players to "show more professionalism" ...
Before you go "Oh no, Roger Draper's been talking to the press about Wimby, and the Bebo Two again," I should point out that the tennis official in question was Rotimi Akinloye talking about the Nigerians in Ogbe!
He also said: Its a sad situation; the parents even are not helping matters. Most players are here with their parents who spend a lot of time to train and encourage them, but such things dont exist here in Nigeria."
I know Fitzy's still quite young, but I didn't realise he'd taken his mum there with him.

Well done Edward. You and John proving to be a HIT on the doubles court!
Interestingly the top seed was knocked out in R1 by the guy who knocked him out in R2 last week. So in Benin City main draw men and women over two weeks the top seed has won 1 match!
Thanks for keeping us in the picture, Edward, your comments make very interesting reading, painting a picture of the young pro's life that we'd otherwise not see. Best of luck with the rest of this week, the visit to Cote D'Ivoire and, indeed, your career! As Steven said earlier, we're fairly confident that a win today would take you into the next-but-one edition of 'Tennis - the top 500', but I'm sure that's of more interest to we self-confessed geeks than to yourself; you could put our nerves at rest by winning tomorrow, too, of course!
Had a tough match today. The guy came out swinging as knew couldnt beat me doing what he was doing last week. I could tell the whole match he was playing above himself and that showed when it got tight in the 1st set breaker, I then had a loose start to the 2nd set going an early break down and had chances to get back in the set at 4-2 when returning, but he was slapping winners and held to go 5-2. It was ****ing hot out there today and we got on could pretty much at 12. Beggining of the 3rd I uped my intensity and added a bit more weight on the shots casuing him some serious problems on my way to a 4-0 lead. So in the end was a 7-6(4) 2-6 6-2 win. I have another hour untill I play doubles at 4 so get some more food inside me and fire back up for that. Also I looked at steveg and will be touch and go if I make 500 with this win. Got to confirm it with a win tomorrow
I know Fitzy's still quite young, but I didn't realise he'd taken his mum there with him.
It's maybe not as far-fetched as we might think, Steven, Fitzy's very first posts mentioned that his Dad was in Karachi (or was it Islamabad?) with him!
(Yeah, I know it was because his Dad works there, but that spoils the story, so I've just ignored it!!)

Well done, Edward! Keep up the good work - & the very best of luck in the doubles, not to mention for getting into the top 500!
Good luck in the doubles later today and also in the singles.
Hope you can get past the QFs this week and push into the top 500
Seems like you played well today and overcame a difficult opponent (well, the way he played at least) and another tight win this week must be good for your confidence.
Hope Fitzy can follow you up with a win later on today as well
Congrats Edward hopefully it'll either be enough (more likely than not, it will be) or you can win tomorrow to make absolutely sure. Carry on like this and I imagine you'll quickly leave 500 far behind you, like Slabba did after he got through that barrier at the end of last year, especially since you've only got 5 more points to defend in the first half of this year.
It's a pity Miles went out yesterday - we could have had three of you getting there in the same week! Still, mustn't be greedy ... and Miles losing does mean there's one less player who could edge you out of the 500 and that you'll be back in the top 10 in GB. I imagine that's even more irrelevant to you, though I guess it might help your chances of getting WCs for Surbiton/Wimby Q (or better) if you're intending to be here for the grass court season.
I'd like to echo DJ's thanks as well. Most of the time, we have to make do with seeing results, and if we're lucky being able to follow live scores and the odd fuzzy live stream from ATPs or Challengers and so often you end up wondering why A lost to lower-ranked B, what on earth happened in the 2nd set, etc - it's really cool having someone putting their matches into context a bit and your comments come across as very balanced for someone talking about their own matches.

Agreed, hope that u took plenty of positives from this tourny, especially since you showed some character to come back and hammer the guy that beat you originally in qualies
