All eight should be given to Brits. That's good for both the players and the organisers.
I agree! Charity begins at home, LTA have reduced GBR futures from $15k to $10k and eliminated some Challengers making it financially difficult to play pro tennis in Britain and much less rewarding pointswise. If they now cut off Wimby WC's as well, convincing AELTC to give them to foreign players as was suggested last year by Roger Draper then I believe it will prove that they, like Gordon Brown are completely out of touch with life at 'grass-root' level. Hopefully AELTC will remember the crowds that gathered around the outside courts just because it said 'GBR' after a name, a name that most will not have recognised, while other courts proved less attractive despite having better known (but foreign) names. Afterall, the media would then have nothing to moan about!

Absolutely - the courts with Brit WCs on them were easily the fullest of the outside courts, it's part of the fun of the first couple of days at Wimby.
Giving most of the WCs to non-Brits would prove only one thing - that the LTA is more concerned about not givng the press a chance to bash them than it is about helping GB tennis players gain experience.

i heard previosuly that to get a WC you have to be in the top 250 (mens) and i saw an article on on the bbc message boards which confirmed this.
as we know at the mo JB is the only one in, but there is the real prospect that he wont be fit for the event.
Boggo (255) and Josh (267) are the only 2 with a realistic chance of making the cut, but there is no garuntee that they will. I dont know the cut off date, maybe they will wait till queens to see if there are any movers there. Josh doesnt have any points to defend (i think), and boggo has 29 inc queens.
Alex is 3 points out at the mo and josh is only 10 points off. i would think josh can do that, assuming he will play india ch, rgq, and surbs then 2/3 wins may well be enough - but it also a possibilty he wont with some tough draws.
tougher for alex tho, with the points coming off, esp if they wait till after queens but he could have a good run at surbs to help.
i wonder what they will do if none or only josh makes it? give the wc's to forginers? i also wonder what they wil ldo with the younger guys who realtictalvy wouldnt be expected to be in the top 250 at this point in their careers.

I Can't believe that Seator is being considered so much, I think you are doing this just on ranking. Taking nothing away from Ed but most of his results have come in weaker areas of the world also on clay. His best surface is without doubt clay and just a week or so ago he lost to Dan Evans at the British Tour and Dan Cox at the futures down at Bournemouth on clay which is his favourite surface, to give both of these lads a wildcard would be a much better option in my opinion than seator as I just don't think he has the game to compete at the top level on the grass.
I do not think Dan Cox would do so well and Don't really think he should get a WC on the grass yet, But I think at least one junior should get one and I think Evo should get it as he has a good all round game, volleys well and is very confident in himself with bags of talent.
My picks Would be
Baker
Goodall
Slabba
Ward
Evans
Dee maybe : )
not sure on the others though.
I think would be good to give a WC to Evans and Cox at Queens also
As long as there form does not drop off before the tournaments come around. I think it was the same age as when Murray got his Wildcard into both tournaments and I know he was a good 500 places higher ATP but you saw how much it did for him by winning some match's there. If either can even put a good performance on the main stage like that it may give them the confidence and belief in themselves that they are good enough to be there. Maybe we will see a vast improvement and rise up the rankings like Andy did from that point on.
Welcome to the forum, supporting brits. I like your choices.
Although I think Baker will be out for a while now?
Personally I don't think giving a main draw wild card to Cox or Evans will be a great idea. At the start of the year I would have agreed, but then I didn't know that their coaches would make them play Juniors this year. They probably would be around ATP 650 by now but I suppose losing early in pointless tourneys is real character building stuff.
They won't get much chance to show their form, either. This is their last men's tournament before Queen's qualies, I guess. Now they'll play two red clay Junior tourneys and miss Surbiton for that.
I'd give wild cards to -
Goodall Marray Slabinsky Bloomfield Kasiri Ward Boggo Play off
And in qualies -
Skupski Cox Evo Willis Pauffley Smethurst Seator Rice Play off
if baker is fit i he will egt one, but to be honest i would be suprised if he is in the position to play by then. of course he might take it anyway if offered, £10k for a match isnt bad
i think we have to see if the LTA stick to this 250 or not if it turns out only one or no one will be eligable.
