RE: Week 8 - Futures F1 (15K) - Benin City, Nigeria

Thanks Ed.

All the best for the dubs final once again! And go for it next week!

(We still love you Fitzy!) (let us know how you get on in qualies) (hopefully you'll draw Barth!)

I prefer Edward, but not too fussed

Oops, I'll change that on my table. I only changed it to Ed after seeing that's what the LTA called you on their GB top players pages (http://www.lta.org.uk/Performance/TopPlayerProfiles/TopPlayersMen/SeatorEd) - you'd think I'd have learnt by now not to rely on the LTA for accuracy. wink

Sorry to hear you lost today ... perhaps just shows how much potential there is to rise up the rankings if you can get the serve sorted out. I can imagine players without a huge serve could find it tougher mentally when serving in the sense that it must feel a bit like you have more to lose when you serve, more to gain when you're receiving.

Good luck in the doubles Final and next week.

DJ - I nearly substituted us for the LTA in that suggestion in the first place. wink Having said that, there are probably lots of players like her in even poorer countries in Africa who try even harder and don't get any coverage at all, who knows ... tempting though, I wonder what everyone else thinks.

Yeah we chopped them in the final, we were a different league, we played really sharp doubles, he's like a "tiger" at the net, and was like a breath of a fresh air to play with....but with 7 from 7 in DC what would you expect? covering the whole court on my serve. Didnt drop a set the whole week. big time tennis! I think we were 7 from 11 in deuce points too, when the pressure was on we delivered!
Not too sure who I'll play with next week as Johnboy has to play Q's in Ivory so dont want to have to loose in semis, will see who I can find before miday tomorrow, possibly Sanon,
Good night all,

Sweet! Nice confidence booster and hopefully a nice little earner!

How do you find it chopping and changing your doubles partners??

There was a bit of a change of plan with the doubles. It is now a friday final, so if we make it that far, John can get signed in over the phone to Ivory Coast and fly that night. So we are sticking together for the nexr 3 weeks I would think. Will be the longest amount of time I have played with the same player so be interesting to see how we keep playing

That sounds like good news. I hope they don't run out of balls this week so manage to keep it as Friday, though hopefully they've learned some lessons from last week.

One thing that I've wondered about (though it's something that most of us fans take for granted) is how you all manage to get to the next event when you don't know how long you are going to be at the previous one, especially given that flexible air tickets tend to be the most expensive ones, which probably isn't much of an issue to the top 100, but must be a big issue to the rest of you.

Do you guess how long you're likely to last and book a ticket for a day or two after you expect to go out and then change it if you last longer (I remember Elena Baltacha changing her ticket plenty of times when she had that run in the AO a few years ago), book some kind of flexible ticket, try to get a ticket last minute after you've gone out (and hope that way it'll be cheaper too, though it must be risky if you have to sign in for qualifying somewhere else a day or two later) or some combination of those three methods?

Similarly, do you ever have hassles getting visas?

Although it says "Mcgahon John (IRL) and Edward Seator (GBR)", I'm pretty sure (based on the tiny picture I think I've seen on ITF and the fact that the one on the right looks more Irish) that Edward is the one on the left. I'm sure he'll put me right if he's not!

Yeah thats me on the left as you look at the pic.
As for Plane tickets etc, its tough, the internal flight here doesnt change price, so as soon as I know what I'm doing. But normaly I buy a return Ticket ans sort of the stuff around the countries as I go, I got a bus from El Salvador-Guatemala this year, Rwanda-Uganda last year. With Visas not too much of an issue normally takes maximum a week, and I live in Sutton so not far from central London
