RE: Week 8 - Futures F1 (15K) - Benin City, Nigeria

Would you believe, this tournament even has its own website! The odd (and slightly frustrating) thing about it is that it has a report about Tuesday that mentions the scores of two matches at http://ogbehardcourtchampionship.com/news.php?news_id=8 but there are no other scores.

The past winners list shows that Aucks won here in 2004. The site also reveals that the tournament is sponsored by Guinness Nigeria and that "Two Guinness Night out at Hexagon Nite club (have been arranged for) Credited players and officials." which may explain why nobody has posted any other scores on any site today! biggrin

Hi Ed, I echo others here when I say thanks for your contributions.

Can you give us any info on the others in your training squad, Josh, Alex or James Feaver. I dont mean any gossip (haha) but more where there games are right now......will Josh climb back to former highs......is James one to watch.....have you got any trips planned together over the next few months, that sort of thing.

L16 (4) Edward Seator WR 531 v Adolfo Gomez-Pinter (ESP) WR 870 or (Q) Hubert Holzler (AUT) WR 1494 (Holzler leads 6-3 5-5, resuming at 07.30 GMT) - 4th on Court 3 after 08.00 GMT

The no. 2 seed was replaced by a LL and John McGahon (IRL) WR 950 won that one and will play the winner of Fitzy's match. Btw the yawn above isn't because the score is boring, it's because 08.30 local is a mad time to have to start playing, though at least it shouldn't have been too hot then!

The internet was down yesterday, all 3 servers here at the courts. It was a late one last night finishing the match on a different court under lights. I was pleased to get the match finished. Fitzy was playing on a back court and only 2 courts have lights so they didnt move his match. He lost this morning not sure of the score tho. I am playing the Spanish guy who was a set down over night, he won 6-3 in the 3rd.
I play singles 4th after 9 and doubles 6th match on.
With the other guys, I'm not too sure about scheduals, I think most the guys are heading back out to Portugal. I havent practiced much with any of the guys this year. I went off to Central America Jan 3rd, took a couple days off when i got back from Mexico and they have been in Croatia, France and Portugal playing so cant judge anything sorry.
If the internet is still working this evening I'll update you on the days progress.

Thanks for the update - looks like I guessed right about why there were no results anywhere, though the organisers seem very efficient with the results once they have access.

What a pity that the wrong match turned around, I was hoping Fitzy might get through to face McGahon and you might get the qualifier who was a set up last night! At least your opponent has already had to play a set and a half today. Good luck anyway!

Hey, Stircrazy, where have you been for the past 24 hours?! If you look back to page 2 of this thread, second post, you'll see that those are yesterday's doubles results you've just given us!

Oops! Clearly not reading the relevant page of the thread very attentively! redface.gif In my defence, I would say that I was having one of those days yesterday, it was getting late when I looked at the OoP showing on the ATP site, but failed to check which day it covered (though I did notice that all the matches seemed to be doubles encounters!), saw no results at all entered on either draw sheet the & promptly switched to the ITF site, which showed only the doubles results I then proceded to post...

Not a great display this morning. Couldnt really impose my game on the match, u have to be into it straight away when following on from a previous day and i wasnt that.
Was windy but that would just be looking for excuses.
Dissapointing, as i know i can play alot better.
Lets hope john does the buisness on the french dude.

I'm just relieved that someone's joined me in the doghouse after my Brownsville boob ...

Good to hear from you again, Fitzy. Shame about this one, but you've another week being entertained on Guiness next week, have you not? Are you then going on to Cote d'Ivoire with Edward? Best of luck for the next round of matches.

Evening all, I just got back from the courts where it has been a bit of a comical day, I was playing 4th on after 9am so expecting to be on in the middle of the heat around 2. Started the day well, went to the other tennis club in Benin to practice for 45 mins before my match with John Mc, headed back to the hotel, chilled out a little bit, had a shower lost to Bains at pro evo on the PS2, picked up my back jumped in the car to go watch John and be ready for my match.....when I arrived I though it was a bit strange there was no one on centre court playing, but assumed was between matches, then even more confused no matches on courts 2 and 3. I hunted down the tournament ref to see what was going on. Turns out they had run out of Balls, someone had been sent to Lagos at 7am this morning to fetch a couple boxes from someone there and then flying straight back here.
That meant that all the first on matches got played but then a massive delay. I was given a pretty accurate not before time of 4.30. With it only being midday we all headed back to the hotel for the afternoon.
My match itself was pretty smooth, I was down 0-30 first game but other than that the guy didn't really make an impression during the match. I went up 5-0 in the first won it 6-1 and then 4-0 up before winning 1 and 2 without dropping serve.
I'm not 100% but I've herd that the guy I'm playing hasn't played today and they have changed it to a Sunday final. If so will be a doubles only day tomorrow.
