Yes! James reaches the semis with yet another straight sets win, this time against against yet another South American with a career high of 262 two years ago!
QF: (5) James Ward WR 529 beat (4) Yohny Romero (VEN) WR 524 by 4 & 3
52 points now, ahead of Kasiri and the same as the player who is 500th in the rankings, but from more tournaments so he will probably still be just outside on Monday week.
SF: (5) James Ward WR 529 v (1) Michael Quintero (COL) WR 300
Once again, the last Brit played by James's opponent was Ammy, whom Quintero beat 1 & 2 in El Salvador last October and once again his previous British opponent was Jamie Baker, but in this case Jamie won 4 & 2, though it was last April, so more recent that Romero's matches against him.
Quintero's career high was 245 last November so it might be a bridge too far for James, but the Colombian's results have been a bit shaky since last October, so you never know.

So close but yet so far ... a good week for James though and he did well to take a set off Quintero, I think - given that Quintero was ranked 245 a couple of months ago, it suggests he's not a million miles off the level he'd need to be to start winning the odd match in the lower-level Challengers.

Thats a real shame
He turned 21 a week ago and is starting to show real class, taking a set off Quintero is good stuff as he was in a challenger final a few months back. I hope he sticks to the outdoor hardcourts for a while!
Doesn't this week make him the highest scoring Brit of the year so far? or close to it anyway! lets hope it continues
