Great from Ward. If Pedersen's gone it means he'll play the guy who knocked out Bammy in qualifying next, but that's still better than having to play Pedersen.
James is now also effectively on 53 points, which will put him a place behind Edward on Monday week because Edward is counting scores from one less tournament.
If things remain like this, there's probably about a 60% chance they'll both be top 500 on Monday week, 20% chance they'll be 500 and 501, 20% chance they'll both just miss out.
I know Josh was unlucky with the qualifier he got, but I still can't believe he lost, let alone in straight sets. He had a draw to die for, too - though I guess that will have motivated Machado as well!

Wow, I've just looked at the draw on the Faro site - if you thought Rotterdam was bad (all 8 seeds out in the first two rounds), look at this - 7 of the 8 seeds out in R1!
That means even more that Josh lost today he could have won this tournament had he found a bit of form, but for James (who is only the highest-ranked player left in the top half if you allow for points to be added from last week) or Chris ... unless Bubka and Klymenko both manage to be double Brit-killers or - horror of horrors - my fear when I saw the draw comes true and Bubka does the hat-trick ...
The surviving seed is (3) Nacho Coll (the only player apart from Diaz-Oliva, who beat Smethurst in Spain today, to have ever double-bagelled Robert Dee) in the third quarter.
(1) Komlavi Loglo must be wishing he'd stayed nearer home and joined Edward & Fitzy this week after being dumped out by a qualifier ranked outaside the top 700, just like Josh.

Barlow is in Morocco and there's no result as yet!
With regards to the top 500. Both Wardy and Edward shoud win another match in their respective tournaments on paper and on expectation which will leave the top 500 debate behind for a while.
Do we have rankings updates weekly except for Grand Slams and Indian Wells? How long till they "actually" go top 500?
Sad news to come back to - I said right from the start that Q2 looked like the 'quarter of death', but I was so hoping that at least one of them could prove me wrong, especially once the no. 3 seed went out ... and especially after Josh went out of 'the quarter of opportunity' in R1.
The bare facts of this tournament are that we had 4 in the main draw + 2 reaching QR3, and the 6 of them were all knocked out by just three double Brit-killers ranked outside the top 600, all three of whom beat at least one higher-ranked Brit (the s below):
(Q) Machado WR 611 took out Luke Campbell in QR3 and Josh in R1 Bubka WR 622 took out Miles in R1 and Chris in R2 (Q) Klymenko WR 879 took out Bammy in QR4 and James in QR2
Let's hope next week in Portugal is a bit better!

he'll end the year with a shocking ranking if he's not careful, anybody remember him beaton Llodra and qualifying for the US open? Wimby as well? where has that form gone!
