Baker, Boggo and Bloomers are pretty much shoe-ins too. So that's 4.

Slabba playing Challenger qualies isn't helping (appreciated that it's better for him in the long run), but if he gets through them and picks up a win or two, then his points will jump quickly, so that should be 7.

So they are the easy ones!!!

I'm looking at the final 5 being made up of Seater, Kasiri, Skupski and 2 others. Cox? Bamford? Phillips? Marray? Smethurst.

i know that the LTA get panned for talking about targets, but i think this one is realistic. What do other people think?


I'd hope Skupski and Eaton can make the top 500 by the year end but might be 2009/10 before some of the younger generation make an impact...............by that i mean Smethurst, Cox etc

John, I think (and I'll admit it's from a very pro-Baker bias) that he is seriously under-ranked at the moment as he was unable to defend a challenger final of nearly 50 points due to the DC a few weeks ago. That's why he's dropped down to 260. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't rise up the rankings again very quickly. I love the optimism around here biggrin. Like I say, I'm a big Baker fan myself so I really hope you're right. It's certainly looking very promising in these Futures events at the moment the way he's easily dealing with the players at that level. He looks to me to be primed to make the step up fully to Challenger level and compete well on a regular basis there. If he does that, then we can definitely start considering him as a genuine pretender to the top 100-150. Top 100, however, is still some way off imo, even though I do believe he will make it there someday, although probably not until next year.

Malteaser Target Update ...

(12 in the top 500 by year end - 53 plus points)

A cracking week (so far) for British Tennis means that Boggo is approx 6 points away from the year end top 500 mark of 53 approx.

It'll take only two more wins for Boggo to crack through the crucial 53 point mark.

2 players above 53 points in February puts us on course for 12 in the top 500 by the year end (just).

Baker is also crusing towards the vital mark on 35 and counting this week. Perhaps he's the player to acheve the mark in March?

Interesting to note that for all the talk of Baker surpassing Boggo, being practically provisional British No. 2 and being a natural selection for DC etc., Boggo throughout this period has maintained a healthy lead in the rankings over Jamie and indeed according to the above message has 12 more points than Jamie already this year. Perhaps people are writing off Boggo a little too soon. I BELIEVE!

Boggo's got a lot of fight in him yet and WILL make the top 100 if not this year, then early next year.
