I've emailed the ITF about it, in case they haven't noticed. Not sure he'll get Futures player of the month for April, but perhaps he ought to for sheer perseverance in the face of ritual humilation!

I love the post about not being able to take anything for granted any more. biggrin

Having pointed out yesterday that Derakhshani wasn't the best player he's ever faced, I don't think this was a fix - I think Rob really wanted to get a win and finally met an opponent he could do some damage against - it's not as if he hasn't gone close to taking a set before. Maybe word about the record had spread further than we thought and there was a bit of ag crowd there today and that inspired him.

One more thing - ForeverDelayed now has a fixed target to aim at. wink

i dont think this match was necessarily a fix, i think some of his previous matches were and he was purposely getting to 54, despite being capable of winning matches

i think after a while he realised two things: firstly, that he was never going to make it as a pro and secondly that he was onto something with regards to this streak. and therefore he set about equalling the record for the most consecutive matches lost and had planned to win number 55. and luckily he got an opponent bad enough to enable him to achieve that

Robert Dee!!!

Surely he's got to be in the frame for a Wimbledon WC now after finally winning a match after all that effort - now gives us the bigger question... can he win 2 matches in a row?

Great to see him finally get his win which we all knew he was capable of and good to see that at the 55th attempt he is finally rewarded with a good draw - if only he'd always get this kind of draw, he could be a top 50 player by now

smile When are the Pakistani futures again where showing up almost guarentees you make the main draw?

I'm still undecided as whether to play in Bournemouth next week... but if I do I'll be continuing my attempt to break the record that Mr. Dee so sadly was unable to do

When? Where's the faith?

Know he knows what's it's like to win a match there's nothing to stop to him winning another match and going on to win this event.

He's probably been fooling us all along by losing all these matches as he wanted the record and now is going to show his true ability

If only one of them would tell us ... and send us the pics! I hope one of them was given Rob's card too when he didn't turn up to that Future we originally thought he was going to break the record at so that they could pass it on to him. Then we could claim that knowing he had a fan club was what inspired him. wink

Anyway, the gods are certainly smiling on him this week - he got a day off to get over his champagne hangover when qualifying was rained out yesterday. They are playing QR2 and QR3 today.

Just remember who it was that predicted Robert Dee would be british #1 at the end of the year.
