RE: BRITISH SUCCESSES

Thanks again, DJ, for keeping lazy people ( who moi? ) up-to-date. It's good to know that the guys ( and gals) out there are making sure and steady progress. smile

How long can we expect these improvements to continue?? We have another 9 career highs this week.

393 James Ward
727 Matt Illingworth
806 Jamie Feaver
921 Josh Milton
967 Jonny Kinsella
987 Dan Smethurst
- Dan breaks into the world's top 1000 for the first time
1012 David Rice
1279 Alexander Farquharson
- Alex makes his debut in the rankings
1551 Nick Cavaday - as does Nick

The sole doubles improvement is shown by
Chris Eaton at 374

Well done, guys!

It's now possible to be in the World top 1000 without being in the British top 25! That's the strange situation in which The Wardinator finds himself.

This week's big news is the first ATP success for Ross Hutchins, who took the China Open doubles title with his Australian partner, Steven Huss - and without dropping a set!
Great stuff, Ross!

Back in October 2005, we had 37 players in the top 1000 and our 25th best player was Andrew Kennaugh, ranked, 736 - Morgan Phillips ranked 743 wouldn't have made it. We're still way off that, the high for this decade I think, but things are certainly looking up this year compared with the disaster that was 2007. smile.gif

Thanks for that insight, Steven. Should be even better next week, with David Rice (1) and Colin Fleming (4, after tomorrow's 3), having points to add; Colin will definitely be into the top 1000, 900 probably, David very probably so, in the lower mid-900s.

I cant see this anywhere....

Ross Hutchins is upto 74 in the doubles rankings (Stephen Huss upto 49 !)

That matches his career high. I was hoping he would get a bigger lift than 12 places...Huss rose 23 places.

Well done !

It's not mentioned here because this is a list of NEW Career Highs, not repeats of previous highs. Just think, once Andy reaches number 1, he'll never get a mention again - gee, life's tough at the top.

Seriously, though, excellent work from Ross.

Denia, last bastion of Spanish Spain as you head down the east coast; apres cela, c'est le fish&chips culture! Lovely wee place, we've been there six of the last seven October weeks - the rain is warm!
Hoping to spot Rob Dee in a Spanish pro tournament thereabouts ...
