I think with James its one round at a time.

Nice draw up to the quarters. Hope he can win a futures title soon. It could be a big breakthrough!

But ended up in the MD as a lucky loser - and made the best of his opportunity by hanging in there to beat the unranked Yankee qualifier, Anthony Gomez, 6-7(2) 7-5 6-4! jawdrop.gif  clap.gif

In addition, Wardy stuttered a bit in the first set, but eventually ran out the winner over Paskvan (ARG) 1-6 6-4 6-3! smile

Good day for the Brits down Mexico way! wink  thumbsup.gif

How funny - it was Gomez who beat him in qualifying!

Another Brit on the ranking list

Yes, and in his highest-ever spot; in Tim(othy?)'s previous sojourn in the rankings, from summer 2006 to summer 2007, his best was 1494, but the first rung at the moment is 1489. Let's hope it stays that way till Monday18th when this week's points appear.
James, too, is in previously uncharted territory; the point he earned by beating Federico Paskvan (an Argentine, it should be noted, in a week when we're desperately seeking positive portents) is his 48th - 53 is the top-500 target, which he would reach if he could repeat last week's semi-final berth. He has a major obstacle, though, in the number 1 seed, American Lester Cook, ranked 351 - or, possibly Tim, who meets Cook today in round two.
Well done, lads, and good luck!

Yes, Matthew, you're quite right; Tim had 5 qualifying wins in Mexico during October/November, including one over young Kiwi, GD Jones, WR 970. He also had 7 or 8 qualie wins in the UK in the autumn.
He's listed as being at both Brigham Young, the Mormon University in Utah, and Western Michigan in Kalamazoo (where 'I've got a girl' - now there's an even more arcane, i.e. old,  reference for Bethan, Count and other like-minded posters to unravel!). He's listed as 'senior year' at WM and 'freshman' at BY, so perhaps has transferred, or is doing a post-grad, or maybe both!
Dave Baxendine is also dual-listed; as a senior, studying Sports Management, at Louisville, and as a sophomore (2nd year, I think) at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.

No mystery to me, I fear, DJ - though I believe it's "gal", it being in the good ol' US of A an' all...! wink
