sorry I will post them some point this week, just been crazily busy......I fell asleep on tube last night on way back, went round the circle line twice.....today has been tough, strange how tiring watching tennis is
FWIW here's what happened....... and a few objective comments based solely on these matches. In the main the Brits were all up against higher ranked older players who had a lot more match experience. Jade Windley and Hannah James impressed me the most yesterday. (brackets = current rank and age)
Naomi Broady (651, 17) v larsson (278, 20) lost 6-2, 6-3. Naomi has a good first serve, fast and, because of her height, she can get good placement.
Lucy Warburton (1021, 20) v Haberkorn (418, 20) 7-5 and 6-4. A close match........just a few misses that made the difference
Natasha Khan (502, 20) v Liggan (299, 29, Ireland) 6-2, 6-1 Natasha was really outplayed by her more experienced opponent.
Hannah James (no ranking yet, junior, 16) v Holusova (473, 20) 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 Hannah produced some really good tennis, great serve, mixed up the shots quite well. Really looked as though she'd win. She served for the match at 5-4 in the 3rd set having broken her more experienced opponent but then lost her serve and the next 2 games. Such a pity because she did have chance to make the win.
Jade Windley (982, 17) v Panova (450, 19) 7-6, 6-4 I was really impressed by Jade. She hits the ball really, really hard and is very calm on the court. Up against a tough opponent who seemed surprised that she had such a fighter on the other side of the net. It was a very tight match indeed and it's a great shame Jade couldn't have gone through because her performance was great to watch.
