Week 5 - Futures F2 (15K) - Bucaramanga, COL - Dee makes it 50/50!

Has Rob Dee been handing over his cash to the Colombian drug barons (again?) in order to stake his claim for a late DC call-up by playing on clay in South America? confused (yes, yes, I making this up just for fun ...)

He has a WC into the main draw of the wonderfully named Bucaramanga Future and he has been drawn against a Colombian WC too, so could we see him win his first ever set?

flap ... flap * PIG * ... flap ... flap ... * PIG * ... flap ... flap

L32: (WC) Robert Dee UNR v (WC) Santiago Villegas (COL) WR 1484

His main chance is if Villegas saw the draw and has already been out celebrating his 2nd ranking point a bit too hard! wink

Still, brilliant to see Rob playing some more tournaments again, he must want the record real bad. Wouldn't it be terrible if he was one match away from it and I went out and entered qualifying for a remote Future that they'd let anyone into and got double bagelled by him ... biggrin

I'd think it terribly publicly spirited of you to help him get that record. Now, what would happen if he had just equalled the longest ever pro losing streak and you went out there and let him get the first set, and a break in the second: What would he do? go for the record or the win? I can just imagine you both trying to lose: double fault after double fault......

I don't have to try very hard to serve double fault after double fault!

He has now lost 49 in a row by my reckoning, and assuming the record still stands at 52, he needs 4 more to take the record.

If Rob lost 2 and 1 to a top 300 player, he might be able to get a set on this bad boy:D

You might not understank nicknack....Mr Dee can loose 0 & 0 to anyone !!!

If he takes a set we should add him to the 'British Success' thread !

I don't think that's true Drew. Mr Dee rarely loses 0 & 0 to anyone. Usually takes a few games, might well take a set soon. Surely all these matche he's playing at a pro level have helped him to improve at least a little.

It's 50/50 consecutive straight sets losses in singles for Robert Dee ... and the record is now so close that it's time to put the champagne on ice!

That was quite prescient! He lost 1 & 0 cry I actually thought he'd get a few more games than that against a WC with just one ranking point.

Probably no last minute call-up from JL then unless he plays in South America again next week, everyone else gets injured the night before the tie and he's the only Brit who can get to Argentina on time.

Robert Dee v Numpty Nalbandian, now that would be a fitting match in which to equal the record! smile

Or maybe have him in the doubles? After all, who can forget the momentous day in Khartoum in August 2005 when Dee and Paul Brighten (both forever immortalised, along with the much missed Adam L, in Neil Harman's infamous article) beat EL HARITH (SUD) / RUSTHEI (SUD) 6-3 7-6(6)?

(though rumour has it that nobody who was there remembers it because they all died laughing wink)
