They just had to be in the same half of the draw as Jamie M & Lapentti, didn't they? Still, mustn't get carried away. One more match for both pairs before we can start savouring a SF with a Brit on either side of the net...!
[...] So, 40 points in the bag for Jamie M for reaching the QFs... By the end of today we'll know whom they face in their QF, Peter Luczak & Boris Pashanski (AUS/SRB) or Fabio Fognini/Diego Hartfield (ITA/ARG - yet another!). Here's hoping Ross & JP can get past Hernández & Roitman & join them there...
So, Fognini & Hartfield to face Jamie & Nicolás after they beat Luczak & Pashanski 6-3 4-6 [10-2] a short while ago, someone answers my prayers & Ross & JPB win the MTB to take themselves into the QFs & likewise pick up 40 points, while their opponents will be decided in the match that follows the Vasallo-Argüello/Mónaco encounter which is being played on the central court even as I type. Watch this space...
Although Stircrazy is quite right that Jamie and Ross have earned 40 points with their first round wins, neither of them will be able to add the 40 to their totals. Jamie's poorest counting score was already 40, so he's gained nothing; for Ross, the 40 replaces an 18, with a net gain of just 22 points. However, the quarter-final win bonus of another 35 points ...
Very glad a) to see Hutch & Brzezicki (have i spelt it right?) win and b) that I wasn't around earlier to enjoy the scoreboard playing havoc with everyone's nerves. Bravo those who braved it out!
Good luck to the Brit boys in the quarters.

Thanks for that, DJ. I can never be bothered to try to work out just how many points one of our boys will pick up from getting through to this or that round of a particular tournament. I simply quote what I see at the bottom of the draw sheet & leave it to someone more knowledgeable than I to calculate the actual haul (if any)! Such things are far beyond my very limited mathematical capabilities...
For the record, Hutch & JPB will face the fourth seeds, the all-Argentine pairing of José Acasuso & Sebastián Prieto, in the QFs after they beat Lucas Arnold Ker & Paul Capdeville (ARG/CHI) by 2 & 1 earlier this evening...
