David Sherwood - Playing Doubles

David Sherwood makes a comeback to pro tennis this week when he plays in the mens doubles with Joshua Gledden as a WC entry. They play a french pair.

GLEDDEN, Joshua / SHERWOOD, David v FRA BURQUIER, Gregoire / REIX, Clement

Gledden is a 16 year old junior who only seems to have played once last year.

David has not played for over a year now and once beat Ricardo Mello at Wimbledon. Mello was ranked 50th in the world at the time.

He also has played DC for GBR.

Nice to see him playing again.

Remember him from the DC tie against Israel away, when him and Murray won the doubles rubber.

Anyone know if this is a permanent return or a one-off?

I think someone mentions on the Sheffield thread that David is coaching Gledden so i'd expect it's the only reason he's playing. His last update on his site over a year ago expressed his intention to retire and concentrate on coaching.

Used to use the top 500 table all the time to keep up to date before I stumbled across firstly the Rusedski message board and then this one.

Nice to know someone used the top 500 table on the Sherwood site (one of its many 'syndications' LOL) - David's based in Sheffield and, as you say, coaching Gledden, so everything points to it being a one off.

I think Josh Gledden is the brother of Annabel Gledden, whose father heads some tennis academy. Sherwood must be there now.
