Nowt that I can see, DJ. thumbsup.gif  Thanks for starting the thread & fingers crossed for the Brits still in with a chance Down-Under:  Jamie M (& Liezel Huber) in the mixed, the boys (Niall Angas, the Dans [Cox & Evans (13)], Neil Pauffley & Marcus Willis(16)) & the girl (Jade Curtis (13))... please.gifpray.gif

Thanks DJ, great thread. and theres no reason to think it might fade and die anymore than if anyone else had started it up, your idea you should take the credit smile.gif

I'm not sure you can count Jamie's qualification as a British victory (though no arguments here if you do!) even so, three tournament wins in 4 weeks 6 if you include doubles, is definitely something to celebrate clap.gif

so, please, everyone, when you spot a British senior male success, jump in and add it to the thread!

You can always count on Bethan to find something nice to say - I'm thinking of starting an Imoen fan-club!
Thanks, too, for your kind words, Stircrazy.
Ta for 'taking over' the thread, Rob - exactly what I was hoping. The quote above perhaps shows why I hadn't included Lewis' victory, great though it was - I  a) was worried the thread might get out of hand if we included the girls and the juniors, and b) thought there might well be some readers, female/junior players even, who looked only at the women/junior sections and would, therefore, miss out on the congratulations. My thought was that there should be similar threads in those sections to offer felicitations ... ?

You won't be surprised to hear she's already got one wink (it may only be unofficial, but I imagine quite a lot of us feel we belong to it!)

Nice idea for a thread, I'm sure that between us we can make sure it gets kept updated.

Another option would be to convert this onto a '2008 roll of honour' page on the BT.net site. i.e. we collect the info on here and it gets transferred to a proper web page on a regular basis. If it would make it easier, I could make that part of the stats collection when I get around to finishing off moving that to BT.net.

I have a fan club? Careful, I can feel my head expanding.

I like the idea of putting this on BT.net, if it's not too much work.

And DJ, I think having a similar thread in the womens and junior sections of the forum is better than having it all in one place to stop it getting too full/confusing (a dash of optimism in that thought perhapswink.gif) - would you like to start those thread up? That way you can edit them as well as any of the mods so between us all we can keep them up to date.

... er ... I'm awfy confused!!

Steven says, "Another option would be to convert this onto a '2008 roll of honour' page on the BT.net site. i.e. we collect the info on here and it gets transferred to a proper web page on a regular basis. If it would make it easier, I could make that part of the stats collection when I get around to finishing off moving that to BT.net."

Bethan adds, "I like the idea of putting this on BT.net".

I thought this WAS BT.net - are my posts appearing somewhere else, on another site of which I know nothing?!! Surely not.

Let me try and get this clear in my struggling brain - MY assignment, should I choose to accept it (no, that was wasted - you lot are far too young to understand the reference!) is to add senior male successes to this present sticky as they occur (is it called a 'sticky' because it sticks to the top of the message board, rather than slides down as other threads do?). I also start similar threads on the women and junior boards. Is that right so far?

In some way, I can then edit any postings to those two areas? ... and will Drew convert those threads to stickies, too? ... and will he also remove the junior and distaff references from this thread?

Meantime, Steven (and Drew?) are going to do something fiendishly clever which involves a 'Roll of Honour' being part of a stats collection and appearing on a 'proper web page' on a site called BT.net, which isn't britishtennis.net? Ow, my head is starting to hurt.

Seriously, though, if I'm to be allowed to edit the new threads (and this sticky?), someone will need to tell me how to do that. Words of one, or fewer, syllables, please; assume, like Manuel, I know naathing - que? (I hope you're reading this, Madeline, 'cause everyone else will be thinking I'm round the bend, while you'll know exactly what I'm wittering about, even if it's German and French in which you're expert!)

In spite of appearances, I do actually know a wee bit about computers; I have my ECDL (yeah, I know that's roughly equivalent to a CDM - are you still there, Mad? - but I was quite proud of it). I have a maths degree, with a year, or was it two?, of statistics, and I once programmed computers professionally - but that was using cobol, roughly equivalent to Latin, and was in the days when you entered your instructions at one end of the computer, took a stagecoach to the other end and awaited the output. So, be thinking about helping old ladies across the street when you answer this, whoever has the patience to do so, and keep my instructions simple, please.
Ta, Derek

if you look at the top right of your post you have the option to edit them. so you can go back to your 1st post and contiunaly update it. normally editting doesnt move a thread back to the top of the pile, so if its made sticky it will stay there regardless.

this site is the message board section of british tennis.net, but was around a longtime before bt.net so not everyone really referes to it as such. i dont.

i dotn know what drew/rob would be doing on the main page tho.

Sorry, DJ. Steven and I meant onto the website part of BT.net (like Count says, the messageboard was around before the website so I tend to separate them in my head)

Your assignment (I may be young but I recognise the quote, can't confess to placing it though, please would someone help me out) i to do exactly that. This thread is sticky so it stays at the top, as you correctly surmised.

As Count says, to edit your post you need to click on "Edit Post" in the top right of the post you've made, next to "quote" and "reply". "Edit Post" should appear only on posts you've made, though mods are able to edit everyone's posts (mwah ha ha wink.gif)

Drew, I or any of the mods will sticky the threads you make in the junior and women sections. Then one of us can remove posts pertaining to that from this thread if you want though that's not really needed. You'll then be able to edit your posts in those threads as well. So, when a success occurs. Either (i) a mod or you will edit your post to add the new success in, and then post to the thread to let everyone know it's been updated Or (ii) someone can post in this thread to let us know the new success and whoever of you or a mod notices it first can make the change to the first post. That way we all share the responsibilty of keeping it up to date.

In the meantime...Steven currently has a vast amount of stats on British players which can be accessed from Britishtennis.net (hereafter BT.net) but is currently on his own personal webspace. He is going to move that across to the BT.net webspace and his suggestion was that he include a webpage version of this thread (and the yet to be created womens and juniors ones) within that section of the BT.net website (not the messageboard). However, the main idea was that somehow (whether by this method or another) we get this thread, or the information on this thread onto the website as well as the messageboard. And that's what I was agreeing to.

Oh and the Manuel reference, I got completely, maybe it has something to do with being a history student, though ancient history isn't my really my area wink.gif (sorry, but you asked for that!!)

There, that post is a lot longer than I was expecting and I apologise for the multisyllabic words.
Hope it all makes sense. Bethan x
