Week 2 - Futures (10k) - Santa Tecla, El Salvador

Played on: clay

Edward Seator seeded 5th. Only 28 entrants, so hopefully some 'turn-up' Brits.

Joe Cooper is that Brit in the qualies! I think he was in Africa for a few weeks with Seator, Bright and Bains towards the end of last year.

Bright (who got a ranking point in Africa) is a possible for turning up and making the Md perhaps?

If he is not on original entry list he won't be in Main Draw

Yeah, Cooper played the African Futures last year. The only one where he had a deal of success was in Rwanda where he won two matches to qualify for the main draw and went down 2 & 1 to David Brewer in the first round.

Most probably will have to jump through hoops to get himself a ranking point here.

Seator will play Derek Schwandt in R1. 25 year old American with 1 point to his name.

Should be another point to add to Ed's collection

Wow, what a great chance to keep rolling into 2008 with another quarter final. Ed really picks his tournaments so well.

R2: (6) Ed Seator WR 551 beat Alex Bartlett (USA) WR 1484 by 7-6(5) 7-5

Ed made hard work of it, but it's another QF nonetheless. smile.gif

QF: (6) Ed Seator WR 551 v (1) Peter Polansky (CAN) WR 343 - 1st on Court 2 on Thursday

Polansky has only once played a Brit at senior level, winning a tight 3-setter against Ross Hutchins in 2005. He also beat Myles Blake in juniors. He also beat Donald Young in juniors and lost a doubles match where Andy Murray was on the other side of the net.

Polansky had a really good season last year,
BTW I THINK he's the guy that sleep walkedout of his window and badly injured himself?

Ed does seem to travel to some far flung places but he gets the wins and this time last year he wasn't even in the top 1000 so he seems to be making real progress. Let's hope he can reach the semi's. If he can move further up the rankings in the first part of this year then maybe he can try his hand more at challenger level.

From Matt (XCW4EVA):

Bit of info on Polanksy, No1 Seed of course.

Won three futures last year and then stepped up to some challenger stuff, had to qualify lots and didn't really make it. This really is a step down to his last five or so tournaments, probably consolidating his points total before he tries another assault on the challlenger level.

This from foxsports.com :

'A story from the opposite end of the juniors tournament is that the boys' runner up was unseeded and required a special exemption just to get into the draw. That's noteworthy enough, but the reason Canada's Peter Polansky needed that exemption is even more compelling. In April, he fell through his third story hotel window while sleepwalking. He required five hours of surgery and 400 stitches. I imagine that any physical pain he feels on court will forever pale in comparison... and Concierge!...Check that boy in on the first floor!'
Ouch

And he beat Myles Blake at some point in his career

CAN A MOD MOVE THIS TO THE EL SALVADOR THREAD
