Thanks for the commentary, my heart bleeds for you over the livestream problems (just like I kept having yesterday) - I couldn't do it even with a working livestream, my typing is just too slow!

thanks Madeline, luckily it came back in time for the last point so i didn't have to punch a hole in my computer screen, probably a good thing wink.gif

by the way this not only puts Andy at number 9 in the entry rankings but also means he's number 1 winner.gifbiggrin.gif (in the race) how many papers will pick that up do you think? wink.gif

It kills the 'can only win a title indoors' theory as well biggrin.gifw00t.gif

Rename it St. Doha?

Maybe not - it's too restricting, let's just have him win everywhere!

Yeah, a rename wouldn't work, then Andy couldn't win any of the Grand Slams...unless we managed to change it to Saint Wombledon.

It's been fascinating this week to see Andy working out how to beat each opponent and how well he's executed each of his strategies. He certainly seemed a 'liberated' player and generally in a pretty good mood despite very occasional signs of frustration. He's shown us so many of his skills and is hugely entertaining to watch even when it gets a little tense. Particularly enjoyed his serving during the Tojo match and hope he's able to perform like that more frequently this year. Brilliant start to the year and can't wait to see him against more top 20 players.

What a good week we've had from all our players. Is that at least a first win for them all except Ross who only lost to the number 1 seeds?

Great start Andy. Hope he paces himself. Wins a few more titles. Makes a GS final. Ends the year in the top 5. That would be progress.

Thanks for the commentary all week, wolf and bethan !

Agree with goldfish, Andy's got it tactically spot on in the last few rounds....is it just me or does Andy seem to have got a lot faster this season, his court coverage is incredible for a big guy, he's like Hewitt and Nadal in being able to stop and change direction so quickly plus he seems to read where opponents are going almost before they've hit the ball. Wawrinka's one of the hardest hitters on tour and in their past matches he's just blown Andy off the court but yesterday he had to go for the lines to win points, resulting in 70+ unforced errors. Andy's really added an extra dimension in the past year with the aggressive play off the 2nd serve, just getting so many cheap points with clean winners or deep shots followed by clinical volleying. It's no surprise that as a result all 5 of his opponents have served quite a few double faults through being forced to go out of their comfort zone and go for more

It's not just you Sheddie there were numerous shots that made me think 'against ANYONE else that would've been a winner' it was really impressive. Same with the net game, that's improved a lot, though shouldn't be surprised given he's spent so much time working with Louis Cayer!

And no worries about the commentary, i'm happy to take my turn in gratitude for when others do the same for me.
