15-15: backhand slice long from Bally

15-30: perfect topspin backhand lob from Bally

30-30: big body serve, B nets return

40-30: B goes long with a forehand

Game: big serve down T, return long

0-15; D attacks the net behind a big forehand, B doesn't do enough with pass attempt and D puts away fh volley

15-15: B works D around the court with some biig forehands and draws an error

15-30: D sneaks into the net, finishes the point with a superb stun volley on the stretch

15-40: B tries to work the D backhand slice, cross-court rally and then D plays a dropshot, draws B in who then misses a makeable high forehand volley

Game: B nets poor dropshot attempt

1-6, 0-2

Game: B dominates the point, moving D from side to side with some good forehands...pushes her out wide but D slams stunning forehand winner dtl

0-40: another good return, angled forehand cross-court forces D to net

40-15: great return from B, but nets the following fh

0-15: D's heavily sliced shots, keeping very low have given Bally problems all match and again here one throws her off balance and causes her to net a forehand

0-30: fh long

15-30: great serve out wide, easy putaway

30-30: big serve down the T, return long

30-40: another good serve out wide, B in full control of the point with some big shots into the corners but the athletic Greek is there every time and when B attacks the net, she dips a shot on the run right at Bally's feet and she can only lift it into mid-court when D is ready to slam it away

Sigh. I didn't expect a win, but I hoped for a closer match than that!

Still, well done for qualifying - with better luck in the draw Elena might have done better.

The four who have been playing this week plus Katie are all on the Alt lists for qualifying for Hobart and/or Sydney next week. Katie and Anne are near the top of the Alt lists and have a very good chance of getting into qualifying at one or the other, the rest are way off so probably won't.

I assume they're all going for AO qualifyin. If any of them manage to qualify for the main draw in Sydney or Hobart, I assume they'll have to pull out of AO Q.

All in all an encouraging week for the British Girls, perhaps tinged with a bit of healthy realism at the end to show them the work that still needs to be done to push on towards that top 100!
