Great opportunity for some of the lower ranked juniors to rack up some points, this field is always really weak as its during Christmas....GAs are the same level pts wise as slams and so the likes of Akhezzan, Thomson twins etc would not normally make the main draw cut.
Results (rankings in brackets):
Rd1: H Fowler (US)(q)(678) bt F Akhezzan (GB)(327) 7-6, 6-2
M Thomson (GB)(218) bt R Bonin (Slo)(248) 3-6, 6-3, 6-3
M Short (GB)(320) bt S Sanchez Rello (Mex)(wc)(1434) 7-5, 6-4
A Waitling (GB)(q)(320) bt D Marcan (Cro)(198) 7-5, 6-1
