Peter Greatorex, Tropicana British Tour Manager, said:It was a shame that Flanagan was forced to withdraw from the mens final but I believe Smith fully deserved his victory. During the course of the week, he showed the most consistency and demonstrated what a good player he is. The Tour will begin again in January and Im looking forward to seeing some of this years stars back in action.
The two class acts of the field made the final...if Flanagan had been fit, could have gone either way depending on which one turned up....could 2008 see a bit of a resurgence for Smith ? 2 yrs ago he was top 300
One of the upsets of the competition was Dan Evans going down 6-3, 7-6 to Chris Priddle in rd2. Priddle led 6-2 in the 2nd set but Evans saved 4 match points and had a set pt of his own at 7-6 but Priddle stayed cool to close it out 9-7
