MSLTA G4 Mumbai India

Great start to the week!!
Dave Thomson arrived here on his own from Gurgaon due to Mat playing in MD final & Dave needing to qualify & qualify he did!! He has had a trapped nerve in his back & has played through the pain to register impressive wins over highier ranked opponents to make the MD!

First round all our boys were comfortable straight sets winners in the singles, with the win of the round going to Mat Thomson, a 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 winner over Alessandro Bega (6th) from Italy, Dave not to be outdone by his twin quickly wrapped up a 6-1 6-1 win over a fellow qualifer.
Next up was Lewis Barnes, who is playing impressively again & he was a 6-2 6-4 winner against the talented Emanuelle Molina, followingBarnesy was James Richardson who played near faultless tennis to destroy Genia Gamozov 6-3 6-0.

In the doubles it was all change this week with Barnesy playing with Maty T, Richo with Ema Molina & Davey T with Ronak Manuja.

Barnesy & Maty were drawn against Davey & Ronak, much to Daves' bemusement & it was as one sided as a Tyson fight as Barnesy & Mat bearly broke sweat for a 6-1 6-2 win!!!
Richo & Molina were drawn against the other Italians Sinicropi & Bega & came out 6-4 6-4 winners in a superb display of doubles.

Play is just getting underway here & first up we have-

Richo V Muddappa
Mat V Kapoor

Followed by
Dave V Marfatia
Barnesy V Sharma

Sorry for the delay, the internet here is not great!!

Well it was second round day yesterday & here are the results-

Mat Thomson bt Nihl Kapoor 7-6(4) 6-4
James Richardson bt Apparnervanda Muddappa 6-3 6-2
Lewis Barnes bt Kaza Sharma 6-3 6-3
Dave Thomson bt Jugal Marfatia 7-6(3) 6-2

All the boys' played really well & showed good fight to give Britain 4 boys in the quarter finals. Mat & lewis, Richo & Molina all reached the doubles semis too with easy 6-2 6-1 wins.

Todays results-

Richo demolished Aussie Adil Hakeem 6-0 6-2 making the 6 places seperating them in the rankings look like leagues & the scary thing was, Richo had more in the tank!

Mat Thomson finally ran out of steam against top seed Singh going down 6-4 6-0 after leading 4-2, Singh is a quality player & I think he will be a nig player in 2008.

Dave Thomson went down to Riccardo Sinicropi of Italy 6-3 3-6 6-3, he played well through out but a lack of belief ultimately cost him the win against the big hitting Italian.

Lewis Barnes took 3 hours to see off Ronal Manuja, a 1991 guy who has been as high as 200 this year & despite suffering cramp when serving 30-30 5-3 in the 3rd he took it 6-2 4-6 6-4 in what will prove to be the match of the tournament, Lewis supplied us with some breathe taking shots & really held his head for the win.

Doubles is still to be played but we have 2 Brits in the singles semis & 3 Brit players in the dubs semi, another good week for team GB!!

Tomorrows line up is like this-
Singh (1)  Vs  Richardson (4)
Barnes (8)  Vs Sinicropi

It was not to be!!!

Richardson went down to Singh in a tough match & despite coming back from 2-5 in the second & saving numerous match points he went down fighting 6-2 6-4 but all credit to him & his performance he went out there to play & had certain goals he tried to achieve & he was committed to them.

Lewis Barnes went down in the battle of the forehands to Sinicropi of Italy 4-6 6-2 6-4 despite leading 6-4 2-0 & 2-0 in the 3rd Lewis allowed his nerves & emotions to get the better of him & self imploded to go down in 3 to Sinicropi who was there for the taking.
Its been a good week for him & he still has the doubles final to go but cant help feeling on abit of a downer now as both boys were capable of winning the title.
Time to regroup & get ready to hit the ground running in 2008!!!

Well done guys...did you seriously make the papers out there ? That's pretty cool for a junior tourney

Great reports Goldenslam, really good to get an insight into the matches smile.gif I've put the reports on the bt.net homepage. Are you going to be with 'Meatball' and Pauffley down under ?

What are the aims for Barnesy and Richo for 2008 ? I guess they'll be near top 200 once all the 89 players drop out, is making the Roland Garros junior main draw the aim or are they gonna concentrate on the 10ks and 15ks ?

The Thomson twins seem to have come from nowhere in the past two weeks !

What was it like out there....I hear some of the hotels can be shocking, was avoiding the delhi belly a problem ? Were any of the courts made out of dung ? biggrin.gif

Richo, thats poor from you...it was 6-1 6-2 they got Barkered!!
Hotels were ok nothing great, we all avoided Delhi belly which is a huge surprise!!
Lewy & Richo are now looking to establish themselves well inside the top 100 as early as possible next year in the hope they can make Roland Garros, DA in to Wimbledon & the US Open , as well as playing deep into 10k futures events. They both have solid games & are more than capable of some great tennis so the goals must reflect that.
The Thomson have been good domestically for a while it's now time for them to step up & show what they can do, which they did! They will be looking to get inside 200 by the end of 2008, I believe they can do this no problem.

ah so it isnt just Barnesy with 'the Barkered' idea....I really cant believe that rumour, Sue and Felgate maybe but surely not Tim !!!! I guess it would explain Sue's slightly over-emotional reactions whenever she interviews him !

are Lewy and Richo going to play the domestic futures or maybe try some overseas 10Ks where the fields are a little weaker to get in the points and make qualifying a little easier ?

Which players do Martin Lee and Arvind Parmar work with btw ?
