Hopefully some of these stats are quite interesting to some of you, but limits on the size of a post (including formatting tags) mean that they are difficult to post on here in easily readable form, so updates are very infrequent.
Hence, I've now set up a British tennis stats page with links to the following women's stats that will get updated reasonably frequently:
- ranking changes in the year so far - ages and career highs of all ranked players - GB in the end of year rankings from 1989 onwards
As an example, here are the movers stats for 2007 so far:
BRITISH WOMEN - MOVERS DURING 2007
Provisional (end-2006 to 26 Nov 2007), will be updated at 2007 year-end
+50% means that a player has climbed 50% of the way between
their year-end 2006 ranking and no. 1, e.g. from 201 to 101.
-50% means that the distance between the player's ranking and
no. 1 has increased by 50% since end-2006, e.g. from 101 to 151.
N.B. The main reason for the number of players leaving the
rankings being so much higher than the number of new
entrants is a change in the ranking rules this year.
Yes, she was Maddie last year, Annika this year, I got confused too. I decided they must be one and the same when I found an entry list on which she is listed as something like:
BROOKS, Annika Madelaine Madelaine Maddie
(some combination of those three names with one of them repeated anyway, I can't be bothered to look it up again!)

to steven. i really enjoyed reading this makes a good reference!!!!
just to add if i had to pick top players this season before this it would have been cavaday liz thomas, elliott and broady!! but ofcourse well done to all in the plus zone and hope all the brits work hard over off season and progress significanly in 2008. and more will be travelling as nigel sears and carl maes have taken a few tournies out of england to stop englih players only getting in here and collecting apparently cheap points
