Heard from Myles this week and he is determined to crack top 500 before the end of the year

Didnt know you were in contact with Myles gazzpash !  smile  What else did he say ?

I contacted him to ask about moving from Manchester Australia for tennis as I'm looking at the same. Most was just advice but he said that he had 2 more challengers before the end of the year and really wanted to crack top 500. Seems a really top guy

I would have loved to have made it onto circuit but never good enough or had opportunities. I would really like to become a world class coach and have an impact on the sport diverting it away from a specialist sport and becoming more socialable and easy access for youngsters. My overall aim is to manage a Centre of Excellence that doesnt just focus producing players, but coaches, pundits, reporters, physiotherapists etc. But one step at a time lol

Here's an update to the 'Race' - unfortunately the exta tournaments last week compared the the same week last year means that no. 500 now has 52 points rather than 50.

The order of columns in the table below is:

- effective points
- name
- running points (includes points from last week's Futures and this week's Challengers) + points from this week's Futures to be added a week on Monday
- where they are this week

46 Miles Kasiri 43+3 (in Ramat Hasharon QFs)
43 Alex Slabinsky 43+0 (out in Khartoum L32 - injured/ill?)
41 Edward Seator 41+0 (w/d Khartoum entry)
40 James Ward 37+3 (in Ramat Hasharon QFs)

In other words, Miles needs to reach the Final this week to make it, while James needs to win the tournament to (almost certainly) make it.

So, Steven, we're looking for James to beat Miles in the final, in which case they'd each have 55 points, and both be safely ensconsed in the top 500!

This just reminds me of how little the ranking points system rewards the hoards of players that play Futures every week. 49 pts and the 500's are just around the corner....A blink of the eye and 50 pts off Murrays ranking might loose him a place...or maybe not.

Thought I was going mad(der) this morning when I tried to post this half a dozen times and kept getting a blank screen, then finally realised it must be the board rather than me!

As well as losing his semi on Friday, Miles pulled out of next week's Czech Future in Frydlant, so it looks like top 500 place will have to wait until next year for him unless he still intends to play the following week.

Slabba will be seeded in the Sudan if he is fit to play but would need to reach the Final to make it.

Ed Seator isn't playing anywhere.

James Ward is 6th Alt for Frydlant, but qualifying sign in is not until Sunday there (with qualifying starting on Monday and the main draw on Tuesday) so it's still a while until we know if he is taking part in Q, the MD or not at all. He would need to reach the Final, or make the semis both weeks, either being a very tall order.

Myles Blake is playing in a Challenger in Tasmania, where a SF appearance would take him into the top 500, but given that he still needs to qualify in the first place, that seems a bit unlikely.

Hopefully some of those playing can add a few points towards the target though!

Shame about Miles withdrawing from the two Czech futures, not too strong a field for a 15K and a lot of pts on offer....wonder if he got injured in the Israel semis...seemed a bit strange that after strolling through the 2nd 6-2, he didnt win a game in the 3rd

Miles is heading to Tampa in Florida again for winter training, he'll be linking up with Boggo, Baker and Gilbert there so should be good for him. His aim was top 500 by end of 2007 and he's come close to that which is good, given he was 1400ish at the start of the year...hopefully top 300 by end of next year...certainly has the talent to do so, just needs to bring his best form to the table a bit more regularly in these futures

Havent heard from Slabba on last week but he hasnt withdrawn from this week's so hopefully it was just mild food poisoning last week....hopefully he's in opposite half to Preg Rusevski this time as apart from him, there's no one really to fear in that field

Miles is a very talanted player. His obviously had his share of injures and gone walbabout sinve his great wimbledon junior run. Good to see him basically top 500. He is one of the british lads who i see top 300 and higher.
