By my reckoning, Miles now has 46 'running' points, giving him a career-high provisional ranking of 527; James likewise a new high, 40 points meaning provisional 557th spot. Not to be left in the shade, Chris now has 39 doubles points, and a personal best position placing of 755, again provisionally, of course. T'riffic stuff; well done, lads!
I'm very sorry, I have to withdraw the comment I've just made about Chris Eaton's doubles ranking. I had counted 3 points for last week's reaching of the quarter-finals with James Ward, but I've since read Wolf's query about there, perhaps, being no points awarded for reaching the quarters of Futures doubles tournaments. I've just checked the ATP Rulebook 2007, and Wolf's surmise is correct - in 2007, zero points for winning your first round Futures doubles - doesn't seem fair, does it? However, the upshot is that Chris didn't gain 3 points last week, so has just 36, not the 39 with which I'd credited him - sorry, Chris and Chris' fans, which presumably means all our members.
So I think the Brits so get together and devise a cunning plot on how to defeat Hadad and Levy. I seem to remember Eaton beat Hadad last week, but Hadad beat Eaton's doubles partner and 2nd seed Weintraub in the last round.
Since Hadad had a tough battle to overcome Weintraub today (6-7(7) 7-6(5) 7-6(3)!!!) & plays his singles QF against Kasiri first thing tomorrow (09.00 GMT, likewise Levy vs Ward), maybe they'll be feeling ever so slightly jaded by the time they team up to take on Chris & Amir in the doubles SF (not before 11.00 GMT), so perhaps there's a glimmer of a chance there...
That's brilliant news for Miles and not bad from James either. It would be fantastic if we could finish the year on a high with Miles breaking that magical barrier!
Well done Miles. Great to see him starting to do well in senior events. I remember watching him in the wimby boys final and thinking he could be a decent player. Looking forward to following his progress next year.
Hopefully next year can be much better than this one. We've lost quite a few names but there are some decent looking propects coming through. The tide may turn.
Miles plays Todor Enev the Bulgarian 4th seed next. He's not lost a set yet and has won 1&2, 4&3 and 2&2 *gulp*
Well, he has now, but unfortunately for Miles, it's the only one: he lost 2-6 6-2 0-6. Appears to have run out of steam in that final set after a good effort to get himself right back in it!
