Huge pts on offer here so lots to play for....Katie will make top 120 and sneak a bit closer to making AO qualies draw directly if she makes the semis

To make sure, she needs to make the final

poor choice on amanda elliott not to turn up
when i saw her name in qualies i htought she could go far. especially as most of chine ranked players arent especially good as they pick up all thier points there!!

Shed, I don't think Katie should have any problem making the AO qualie draw directly wink.gif

Tough draw for Mel: 7th seed Shuai Zhang.

Katie has a wildcard which is either really good for her or potentially embarrasing depending on how good the girl is.

Georgie has drawn the experienced Fujiwara, could be a tough match for her too.

According to ITF website Amanda is playing doubles with Mel!? Maybe she turned up to late for qualies in singles?confused.gif

Amanda was playing doubles in Australia on Friday at the time of the sign-in/qualy draw.
Mel needs a QF to make the top 200

Katie lost 6-4, 6-2 Shocker!

That is very disappointing. She's been knocked out of four or five tournaments in a row by players ranked a fair bit lower than her. It's sad to say (and it might be pointing out the obvious a bit) but I think our Katie might be a tad overranked.

That is so disappointing.
If katie had done well here this week she could of taken herself to a new ranking high.
Maybe she felt the pressure but if she wants to be in the top 100 she has to win these types of matches or the sad but true fact is, she would'nt stay there very long. She was top seed in the Aussie tournaments recently but couldn't go allthe way on any week. It's a real lost opportunity. She's done well this year to climb higher but next year she's going to have to improve even more if she is serious about mixing with the big girls

R1

Shuai ZHANG (CHN) (7) defeated Melanie SOUTH (GBR) 7-5 6-2

Rika FUJIWARA (JPN) defeated Georgie STOOP (GBR) 6-3 6-1

Not the greatest day.
