Bad loss for Miles... but why is he playing on Spanish clay in November?
If you're going to play on clay at this time of year you either have to be a clay courter (don't think Miles is) or play in a very week draw (see Rwanda) which Spain isn't
Because they all want to earn one of your prestigious nicknames
and when they've not been thus rewarded, they retire
Two big flaws there - I don't make up nicknames for the Brits (I do limericks instead) and if you were right, wouldn't it make more sense to wait until they had got that ultimate accolade and use that as an excuse to retire?
Anyway, here's a topical one given the number of 'English bars' in the Maspalomas area (the first and last place I took a package holiday to lol)
There was a young man called Kasiri Who lost badly through being so weary That naughty boy Miles Had been out on the tiles No wonder his eyes looked so bleary!

Here's another one sheddie in particular might like - it plays on the fact that although the Manx pronunciation of Kennaugh is (more or less) Kenyik, the English tend to pronounce it Kenn-off.
A player from the Isle of Man Was almost as common as Flan But we thought him a toff Cos we called him Kennaugh Boy, I pity his poor brother Juan
(think about the last line ... and as soon as you burst out laughing, I intend to deny all responsibility!)

I spoke to James a couple of days ago (sent him steven's kasiri limerick which went down very well !), he said that Miles wasn't really up for it this week
James now heads to Israel....after that he'll either play the two in Czech Republic or instead start pre-season training
Solid weeks performance from him...unfortunately he's not having the success he had earlier in the year on the dirt, when he beat quite a few of these guys in the 300s

From what I heard I'm not sure whether Miles particularly wanted to play this tourney
His best surface is medium-paced outdoor hard, he's quite suited to the slower surfaces as he hits with quite a bit of spin and likes to construct the pts from the back. Last week's tourney in Spain was on hard
Not sure why more players dont do the African futures considering they are easy pts...would be the perfect chance for guys like Miles and James to go there, make a few finals and start 2008 ranked near 450
Wardy says that in his rd2 match he was a set and 4-1 down, saved two match points before coming back to win !
He says that next year he's going to play a lot more tournaments, this year he played 25 but that isnt much compared to some players. He wants to be top 250 by end of 2008 and low 500s by end of this season which suggests he's going to play the two Czech tourneys after Israel.
I asked him if he's going to play any African tourneys but he doesn't think so because the fields are so weak that there isnt any point...you end up with a false ranking which can only get you so far

You're a nightmare, aren't you!
Still, sounds like it might have been nearer the truth than I thought ...
