That's the best day at a GB Future for a while - only one point each though, let's hope at least a couple of them manage to build on their success today by winning at least one more match.
A good day, certainly, but call me a , a sceptic, a hard taskmaster or whatever, but not until they do it again tomorrow, the day after & the day after that & next week & next season shall I be persuaded that the tender green shoots of a potential upturn in British tennis fortunes are pushing up! That said, great wins for young Dan Cox & Ken Skupski!
* Only three seeds left in the singles draw now: Goody (2) (at least he doesn't have to face Pedersen again. Be interesting to see how he handles Sitak...), Freddy Nielsen (4) & Adrian Mannarino (7)...
A good set of results today. Great from Cox, I was hoping that one of these bad draws would turn into an upset for him, I honestly didn't expect it to be Crugnola though! Hopefully he can build on the win and go deeper this week.
I also see Rusby retired, hopefully nothing too serious.

To look at a thing is quite different from seeing a thing and one does not see anything until one sees its beauty
Especially from Cox, that's a stunning win...having seen both players last week, I expected it to be the other way wrong....Nielsen does have a habit of hammering Brits in futures though so it wasn't a particularly good time to watch Cox....now plays qualifier Karatchenia so this could be Cox's best chance to make a 15K semis
Awesome stuff from the Slabba and now he has nothing to lose against 7th seed Mannarino who must be good to beat Vico 0&3...he's made 3 futures finals in the past couple of months which is ominous and beat Rice, Kasiri and Rushby this year but did lose to Rudy Coco so who knows !
Goodall will be pleased that Pedersen went out to Sitak...don't think Josh will have any problems with him..hasnt got any big weapons....very fast and runs for everything but if you get on top, his temper can get the better of him.
Skupski has Dell Acqua next (why is this draw full of former top 200 players on the way back from injury ???)...thats a nasty one as back in 2004, Dell Acqua won several challengers, beat Boggo on grass and got close to top 100
Eaton did well to beat Giraudo (who is a clay-courter but ranked in the 500s and looked pretty good to me in Redbridge)...sadly Brit-basher Chramosta awaits tomorrow
Flanagan has Masson who beat 6th seed and has been as high as 215...he made the semis last week too
Well done to all the Brits that got their wins today, which were 3 more that I was expecting to see.
Skupski, Goodall and Eaton all got their wins which were expected and hopefully they can go on to better things in this tournament, especially Skupski who needs to start going on after capatilising on these first round wins and go deep in a tournament (should have a WC for next week now)
Great win for Cox as well, and hopefully this is the time that he takes advantage of a big win and try and make the QF's, as he should be the favourite for his next match and could potentially go really deep into the SF's here
Well done to Slabba on getting the win in his match, which looked to be a close one, and hopefully can make the QF's as well.. and Flanagan managed to put 2 weeks together as well, which is a bit of a surprise
Before this week I wasn't confident of a good week, but I think Goodall, Cox, Skupski and Slabba all have really good chances tomorrow, with Eaton and Flanagan also looking as if they could win
Ken Skupski [929] vs. Massimo Dell'Acqua [575] of Italy Daniel Cox [931] vs. Andrei Karatchenia [924] of Belarus Chris Eaton [739] vs. Ladislav Chramosta [471] of the Czech Republic Alexander Slabinsky [616] vs. Adrian Mannarino [364] of France Ian Flanagan [898] vs. Jeroen Masson [498] of Belgium Joshua Goodall [300] vs. Artem Sitak [527] of Russia
Coxy's match isn't easy, but he'll be fine if he plays well.
I think Ken and Cox have the same problem, some awesome results but theres no significant follow up. They both defo have the game to do it tho
I see no problem with Coxy as it's almost impossible to be more consistent at this age. I think that he has an incredible level of consistency, for that matter, as he has lost just three times to players ranked outside the top 400 this year.
Wow! All four seeds in the top half of the draw went out in R1, as did the other seed in Josh's quarter. A huge chance for two or three of the Brits to score big points, then - something tells me they won't, but I hope to be proved wrong!
