Week 45 - Futures F21 (15K) Redbridge, GB

Grrrr what a disappointment really thought Josh would go far. Very annoying week with a few getting draws opening up and then losing to lower ranked players all over the show. Thanks for the reviews anyway Sheddie.

A bit of good news out of Redbridge for a change:  Goody & Skups took the doubles title, though not without a battle:  5-7 7-6(3) [10-5]! clap.gifwinner.gif

*  A closer first set than in yesterday's SF... biggrin

If Skupski doesn't make it in singles there will surely be a really good future for him in doubles with his volleying ability and the huge leftie serve

Goodall is currently top 150 in doubles...hopefully now he's moving back in the right direction singles-wise he can start playing more doubles in challengers and competing for the bigger pts..

Well done to Josh and the Skupster. Slight gloss on a disappointing week!

Would Ken be making challenger qualies cuts yet?

At 900ish Ken would make a few very weak challenger qualies but needs to get to around 500 to have a chance of making them regularly.

It's best not to go for them till you're top 400 and then likely to get a seeding in some

Ye, he would make a few cuts but it's too much to risk. Imagine going somewhere and finding that you can't play!

Skupski will be there soon!

I disagree about when to do it though. Seator, Ward and Kasiri would have been seeded in Dnepro qualies this week. What a fantastic opportunity.

They would have made Taiwan main draw comfortbaly.

Skupski would have been seeded to qualify there and would have been a shoe in.

I think they have to stop "consolidating" their careers in Futures R1's and 2's, and back themselves to cause higher ranked players problems. 2 or 3 points for qualifying and a crack at some bigger points in challengers gives them better chances for big confidence boosting wins and points.

Farting about in futures may get them the odd win here or there but then points from last year drop off, they never seem to rise up all that fast and the confidence saps.

I'd take some more challenger qualies losses for the sake of the odd win and some excitement.

Having said that, Rushby did bomb in Eckental.

They need to look at things like Aucks making an ATP semi coz he picked a weak event and backed himself. And they need to back themselves.

Granted funding is a problem for a lot of them but I think its worth a go from time to time.

Saw this guy with the youngsters in Manchester - not very impressed by his professionalism
