ATP says that Andy's 1 win away from claiming 8th spot in the Race !!!! Is that right ?

If he wins tomorrow and he's 8th, what theoretically does he have to do to ensure a place in Shanghai....would quarters do it ?

tough draw...I'd guess that it'll be Nieminen in rd2, he's in Basel semis this week, beat Gonzo in quarters........Andy can take him if he plays well, beat him in Washington 2006

grrrrr @ getting Djoko so early...could beat him if he plays similar level to the Nadal match but it should be a humdinger....need to improve that current 0-3 head to head

pray.gif that the matches will be on at 6pm GMT or later...can't get home from work earlier than that cry.gif only 1 hr time difference will help things....been irritating with St Petersburg matches this week...3 hrs difference

The ATP don't have a clue what they are doing... he is potentially 2 wins away from 8th spot... beating Verdasco tomorrow and then his round 1 match at Paris, as long as Haas, Robredo and Blake all lose in round 1 in Paris

He goes 11th if he wins St.Petersburg, and so to qualify for Shanghai would have to go 1 round further than those 3 players to make it, and not have any of Berdych, Gasquet, Moya and Ljubicic going a round further than him.

Put simply, to have any realistic chance, he really needs to beat Djokovic and get to the QF's (but Robredo has a draw of Simon/Starace followed by q/q/Canas, so is big favourite to make the QF's in his section, and I think that he will claim 8th spot)

It actually says he's one win away from being 3 points away from 8th spot he'd be in 11th.

As for what he'd need to do to ensure a place: Firstly winning tomorrow is imperative to have a chance. Then in paris: Semis probably, win it to be sure. (but it obviously depends on what everyone else does. If Blake Robredo and Haas all lost first round and Murray reached the third round that could be enough provide Berdych, Gasquet and a few others didn't get as far as the quarters)

yeah, I think monaco would have beat him anyway but especially with nieminen reaching the final in basel he is bound to be a bit fatigued.
