Well IK gets taken to 4 deuces but its 5-5 third set. 2hrs on the board already.

NO bps for either player in this set...like the first...looks like they both have been serving very well TB has 13 aces to his name also.

No-one has taken a BP chance so cannot see anything else than a 3rdset TB to decide this.

Please feel free to correct....I am no stato....

I have update (I Think) all the results from today...

6th/D. Ferrer 413 12 Lost 1st Rd. Basel -12
7th/F. Gonzalez 380 0 Lost Basel QFs +12
8th/T. Haas 329 8 Withdrew Lyon (stomach upset) nc
9th/T. Berdych 322 8 lost in Basel QFs +4
10th/R. Gasquet 316 10 Lost 2nd Rd. Lyon -5
11th/C. Moya 316 15 not playing nc
12th/J. Blake 312 20 Lost 2nd Rd. Basel -15
13th/I. Ljubicic 311 15 Lost Lyon QFs -4
14th/T. Robredo 310 18 Lost 1st Rd. Lyon -18
15th/G. Canas 299 1 Lost 2nd Rd. Basel +4
16th/A. Murray 298 5 Alive in St. Petersburg SFs +17
17th/M. Youzhny 289 15 Alive in St. Petersburg SFs +7
18th/J.I. Chela 281 8 Lost 1st Rd. Basel -3
19th/M. Baghdatis 275 12 Alive in Basel SFs +10
20th/L. Hewitt 273 4 not playing nc
21st/J.C. Ferrero 271 4 not playing nc
22nd/I Karlovic 265 8 Alive in Basel SFs +14
23rd/J. Monaco 264 9 Lost in 2nd Rd. Lyon -5
24th/P-H Mathieu 263 8 Lost Basel QFs +4
25th/D Nalbandian 255 0 Lost 1st Rd. Basel nc

I have followed the notes on the ATP page 'race bubble' so hopefully this is right. If you go out in R1 you do not get any race pts...thats right ?

So only 31 pts separate Andy from 8th spot....

If Andy wins St Petersburg he will rise to 326 points and 9th Spot.
If Andy looses the final of St Petersburg he will rise to 311 points and 13th Spot I think even if Baggy wins Basel (303pts)
If Andy looses his SF of St Petersburg he will stay at 298 pts and drop to 17th as Youzhny will overtake him as long as Baggy doesnt win Basel. If he does then Andy back down to 18th.

So my head hurts....please feel free to correct !

Unfortunately no one loses any points in the race Drew as they're all from this year so no defending. I think you've gotten confused (easily done, it's taken me a while to understand) because of the 5th result column in the ATP table. This is the lowest score in the 'best 5 other tournaments' that all players include in their Race Points total (along with the Grand Slams and Masters Series). During a normal week like this week players can only add to their total is the new points exceed their 5th best, if that's the case it's then replaced. Hope that makes sense to everyone.

Here is the new ATP table from today (link on page 1 of this thread). The brackets are my calculations and so liable to be wrong.

Pos./PlayerPointsBest 5th This Week
6th/D. Ferrer 42512Lost 1st Rd. Basel (+0)

Current 'running rank'

6. Ferrer
7. Gonzalez
8. Haas
9. Robredo
10. Blake
11. Berdych
12. Gasquet
13. Moya
14. Ljubicic
15. Canas
16. Murray
17. Youzhny
18. Chela
19. Baghdatis
20. Hewitt
21. Ferrero
22. Monaco
23. Karlovic
24. Mathieu
25. Nalbandian.

What if for the week:

If Andy wins in St. Petersburg. He will have 326 points and will rise to 11th spot. He cannot be overtaken by anyone.

If Andy is the runner up in St Petersburg. He will have 311 points and will rise to 14th. He cannot be overtaken by anyone.

If Andy loses in the semis He will have 298 points and will be overtaken by Youzhny. He could be overtaken by Baghdatis (win in Basel). Best case 17th, worst case 18th

So Drew pretty much covered it. Basically Go Andy! and boo baghdatis!! wink.gif

From the ATP site...

"Andy Murray is one win away from moving to within three points of the No. 8 spot in the ATP 2007 Race after defeating Mikhail Youzhny 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(1) in the St. Petersburg Open semifinals."

That matches our workings above...he has 311 and if he wins he will have 326 thats 3 pts behind 8th Spot. (Haas on 329).

I presume Haas will be fit for Paris. Quite a number of those players that were ahead of Andy prior to this week have had a poor week so its really up for grabs.

Murray lost in the third round last year (Hrbaty !) in Paris.

Is Andys new '5th' score is 22 pts from the Memphis semi ? Which means for Andy to gain any more points in Paris he would have to get to the QF ?

Andys Race Pts Breakdown :

http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/playerprofiles/racepointsbreakdown.asp?player=MC10

When you look at this is becomes so clear that if Andy had played a full yeat he would already have qualified for Shanghai and be ranked top 10 !

For Murray to claim the 8th spot, he needs to win St Petersburg and he needs to outperform Blake, Haas and Robredo at Paris.

Simply, he MUST beat Djokovic to be 99.9% certain, IF he gets there.
