If Andy loses in the QF he'd have 351 points. He'd overtake no one. He'd be overtaken by Gasquet. He could be overtaken by Youzhny (reach the final) and BaghdatisORNalbandian (win the tournament). Best case: 10th Worst case: 12th
If Andy loses in the SF He'd have 371 points. He could overtake Robredo (if he loses in the QF to Baghdatis) He could be overtaken by YouzhnyORBaghdatis (win the tournament) Best case: 8th Worst case: 10th
If Andy loses in the F He'd have 396 points. He'd overtake Gonzalez He could overtake Robredo (if he loses in the QF or the SF). He could be overtaken by no one. Best case: 7th Worst case: 8th
If Andy wins the tournament He'd have 426 points. He'd overtake Gonzalez and Robredo. He couldn't be overtaken by anyone. Best case: 7th Worst case: 7th.
So if Andy wants to go to Shanghai, tomorrow is a MUST WIN match and the semis might be enough but a final place would be definitely time to book a ticket.
In the QFs, we're rooting for Andy (against Gasquet), Baghdatis (against Robredo), Nadal (against Youzhny) and Ferrer (against Nalbandian).

excellent analysis - though if top 8 is all that matters, there is no need to root for Ferrer (unless you prefer him!) - Nalbandian can't overtake the winner of AM/RG
