(and with Ed getting Boggo, it means at least 3 Brits will make round 2, which is better than we've had in the past)

Lol now only 2 Brits in R2, Bloomfield and Willis.

Doubles Result

Delgado/Moser d. Goodall/Skupski 6-3, 4-6, 10-5

Grrr... Allinson beat Fischer in qualies and lost to him here. Why couldn't it be the other way round????

Erm, I hesitate to point out the obvious, but if Allinson had lost to Fischer in the qualies, he probably wouldn't have been present in R1 to play Fischer as a LL anyway because his ranking ain't good enough to justify a LL spot (I presume), so the possibility doesn't arise... hmm

But don't they get drawn out of the hat? I assumed that!

Second round:

Marcus Willis [Unr]
vs. Steve Darcis [113] of Belgium
Richard Bloomfield [268] vs. Robin Haase [101] of the Netherlands

Something tells me that Willis won't get thumped tomorrow. He has shown that he can give Challenger level players a good match in the past and since the courts appear to be quite fast, he may do it again.

Haase was taken to five sets by Elias on indoor hard last month! If Bloomers plays well he could take it.

I don't think it's quite that simple, if this:

Previously, the highest ranked player who lost in the final round of the qualifying competition for a Grand Slam tournament would receive entry into the main draw - and thus become termed a "lucky loser" - if a player withdrew; now the top four ranked losers are drawn at random after the final round has been completed.

is anything to go by.  Allinson is ranked, what, 1153, while Fischer, the second seed in the qualies, is 301, Lars Uebel (3) 345 & Armin Sandbichler (7) 432 (the final qualy round losers).  Then there were the other seeds who lost earlier, Pedersen (5) [412], Stancik (6) [425] & even James Ward (8) [610].  If Fischer had qualified, I think the LL spot would be more likely to have gone to one of them... idea

Stircrazy, I think it's the four top ranked losers in the final qualies round. In this instance, there were only 4 losers in final qualy round. Losers in early round would not get put in the hat even if they were ranked higher than Ed.

All immaterial though really.

What makes it confusing there are 3 rules - ATP (ATP and Challengers), ITF (futures), Slams(ITF)

From the 2007 ATP rulebook

6.21 LUCKY LOSERS, SUBSTITUTIONS AND VACANCIESA. Lucky Loser Selection

A player may be entered in the main draw of a Tournament if he meets the criteria outlined for a Lucky Loser.

1) Lucky Losers are players who have lost in the final round of the qualifying event or, if more Lucky Losers are required, those players who have lost in the previous qualifying round(s). The Lucky Losers shall be selected on the basis of their position on the ATP Ranking (Singles) List (Entry Protection is not considered) used for the determination of qualifying seeding; that is, the Lucky Loser with the highest Entry Ranking position shall be the first inserted into the main draw and so forth. Only those accepted into the qualifying competition may sign in as Lucky Losers..................

With the lucky loser situation... in Grand Slams it is done out of the hat, in all other tournaments it is done solely by ranking

At least Delgado saved it from being a total washout for the Brits. Allinson and Eaton were never expected to win, but disappointing to see Goodall lose, as these are the kind of matches he needs to win to get the ranking back up (and with Boggo out, the draw had opened up for him)

Hope it's nothing serious for Boggo, as it would have be a shame for him to get another injury when he appears to be finding some form again

Count, anything from Boggo?

What a gutter that he had to withdraw. I suppose on the upside he actually rested it this time rather than risk exacerbating it.

Looked apromising challenger yesterday, but now its looking depressing!

Bloomers or Marcus, YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU!!!

aparently he hurt his shoulder in training on sunday, was hoping it would heal up enough to play, but it didnt, naturaly he isnt happy as he saw this as a good week.

he has now going to america for a fews days break b4 his next event, hopefully he will be ok.

the 2nd half of the year has really been a bad one for Alex, i am sure he cant wait till the year is over and can start fresh in the new year, but he will have to do well to maintain his ranking till the year end as he will need to defend his shewsbury points and at the moment nothign seems to be goign his way.

This may not be that bad a thing. Now he won't have to worry about jetlag.

Do you know if he is intending to enter Shrewsbury again this year? I went to watch him there last year, and was hoping to do so again.
