What a draw for Willis and Pauffley, huge opportunity..neither has a ranking point yet so the winner will go up into the 1200s immediately which should help for futures qualies next month and in 2008.
Arka, who do you think will take it ?
Both are also competing in the doubles, after winning junior tourneys for fun in the past few months will be interesting to see how they get on.
Great draw for the Bogman too, he couldn't really have hoped for better...should make quarters and then a 50:50 match with Darcis
Really disappointing though that he could play Josh Goodall in rd2. I think Goodall has a good chance v Kamke who has had most of his best results this year on clay, ok he beat Mirnyi but there's a strong chance Mirnyi tanked that knowing he was guaranteed a LL spot.
Bloomfield cant complain either with his rd1 draw, Knittel has had a dire season after a promising first 3 months, barely won a match since. Unfortunately he'll probably play Robin Haase in rd2
Looks like the Bogman will probably be flying the flag from last 8 onwards...shame as it's only when you make quarters and further that the points really make an impact ranking-wise at this level
I just wondered if Mirnyi tanked that match because I just can't see how otherwise he'd lose 4&3 on a super-fast indoor court to someone ranked 243.
Bloomers, Evo, Willis and Pauffley play their rd1 matches tomorrow
Courts in Barnstaple must be very fast, Allinson won two matches very comfortably...two great results for him out of the blue ! He beat James Ward 6-2, 6-0 I wonder if Ward was 100% because even if he wasn't playing great, I'd expect it to be a little closer with Ward's serve.
Next up is Martin Fischer who won in a final set breaker, Chramosta lost in qr1 ! Tough one but who knows
Brilliant win for Eaton, he beat 5th seed Pedersen 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 Unfortunately Kasiri pulled out before their rd1 match, hopefully not a bad injury. Eaton plays Lars Uebel tomorrow, the 3rd seed...I think he has an ok chance.
Slabba seemed to return to form here...he beat Klier 7-6, 6-4 in rd1 and gave Uebel a tough match, going down 6-4, 3-6, 6-2
Some surprisingly results in qualifying there, but well done to Allison and Eaton for making the final round, and hopefully they can cause another upset tomorrow and qualify
Lovely draw for Willis/Pauffley, and good way for one of them to get a ranking point or 5, and give themselves a good chance in futures from now on with the ranking boost this will give them
Tough draw for Evans, but hopefully he can learn from this and see how he matches up against a top 200 player
Not impressed at seeing Goodall and Boggo meeting in round 2, as Goodall is the only Brit in form at the moment, but Boggo still has the best chance to do well here, and it will be a shame to one of them lose in round 2 (boggo will win, but Goodall could have had a good week otherwise)

Sometimes big upsets happen, don't they?
In case someone wants to be really nice, they could call up 01271 377701 and ask for the scores. That's the number given on the club's homepage - http://www.tarkatennis.net/
Willis. He has done more than Neil in the men's game - beat Matt Smith this year and has taken sets off De Bakker and Klizan, who both have Tour wins. But I'll be far from disappointed if Pauffley wins.
I both think and hope that Willis will take it. But I'll be equally glad if it's the other way round!
And why on earth would anyone tank a qualies match at Tour level when there are points on offer? You get full 10 points for qualifying at Stockholm.
If he was already guaranteed a place as a LL, it would be hard playing just to stop your opponent qualifying - after all you might play him some time in the future with the roles reversed. I guess it's a bit of backscratching IMO
I take the point the extra pojnts for qualifying, but I guess getting to the main draw is the main motivator, so with that removed , it's that much harder ....

But don't they choose lucky losers out of the hat these days?

Yup. For stockholm there were were 4 LL spots in the main draw, and 4 final qualie matches. I guess Max must have worked out that he had a fair chance of coming out of the hat ....
