Week 42 - Womens ITF (25K) - Makinohara, Japan

Bally is second seed in the first of two Japanese 25Ks played on carpet.  Rika Fujiwara could prove a tough opponent in the second round. She is a former top 100 player, who is only unseeded because she was out of the game for a year until this May.

HISAMATSU, Shiho [JPN/5] vs TAKAGISHI, Tomoyo [JPN]
FUJISHIRO, Haruka [JPN](Q) vs TEZUKA, Remi [JPN]
OKA, Ayumi [JPN] vs FUJIWARA, Rika [JPN]
KIM, Joohyoung [KOR](Q) vs BALTACHA, Elena [GBR/2]

From what i've seen Fujiwara hasn;t comeback with a huge amoutn of success. Really Bally should be looking to win this.

Fujiwara came back in May I think, and although not back to her best (a previous winner of the high-powered Surbiton 25K for example) she did make a 50K semi last month.

she faces number 5 seed Shiho Hisamatsu who beat qualifier Fujishiro 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, for a place in the semis!

Baltacha has also reached the doubles semi-finals here anong with TAKAGISHI (JPN).

They beat the no1 seeds, IIJIMA (JPN) / OKAMOTO (JPN) in the previous round (12-10) in the champions tiebreak!

Bally showing some form here... lets hope she doesnt tire out!

Elena now faces 5th seed Shiho Hisamutsu, they've played once before, back in 2004 when Hisamutsu won 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. She's currently ranked 236 but has been as high as 143. She's made 6 challenger quarters this year (mostly in Japan) but has yet to go further. Her best run came in the Midland 75K when she took out world no 56 Iona Olaru in the first round in straight sets, so she's a dangerous player.

According to GBTG:

Baltacha(2) d. Hisamatsu(5) 26 63 64

Great news. An excellent tournament so far for Elena.
