Sfax isn't the nicest of places, either. It's the "second city" of Tunisia and completely mental. I believe the residents are referred to as "Camel-kazi". You see families of six riding on the back of one motorbike. They die a lot.
The good news is that, since he's out early, he can do a spot of sightseeing further afield where things get a bit nicer.
