yeah Boggo told me that it was partly down to lack of money....when ranked between 200 and 300 you really earn very little...hard to break even with all the globe-trotting from challenger to challenger. Also the travelling does get you down when you've been doing it for that many years....
The other reason was that Alan felt that he wasn't going to make top 100, possibly because he just hadn't been able to get that breakthrough win at ATP level.....he came so close on a number of occasions....had match point against Karlovic in Milan, led Baghdatis by 2 sets to 1 at Wimbledon etc
It was a shame as I felt he'd made big progress after starting with Mike Raphael in summer 2006....however that folded at the start of this year....although Alan had those great results down under, the form tailed off afterwards
