"She said that the Jenkins vs. Baker match seemed to be a good one from the cheers she was hearing but she didn't know much else because she had been watching Zack's match. She told me that was probably the last update she would phone in."
I don't want a good match, I want a good scoreline for Jamie!
why are the US challenger sites so useless for most of the year ??
Tricky draw but winnable...Jenkins is such a flashy player, blows hot and cold...has the talent to be much, much higher than his current ranking of 301. He got to no 6 in the juniors back in 2004. He qualified for the US Open last month before getting Federer in rd1 so is in good form....beat Boggo and Mackin at Delray Beach earlier in the year but Boggo crushed him 2 and 1 in Florida a couple of months later
After the other two results I was just expecting this one for some reason. Absolute shocking form from our challenger level brits at present. I suppose Jamie had a decent week in a futures but you would hope to see some results from at least one of them.
very disappointing but not wholly unexpected, as I said Jenkins can beat anyone at this level on his day, he's perfectly capable of winning this tourney
Jamie needs to pull through some of these close matches, I'm worried this is gonna be a repeat of last autumn when he only got a handful of pts from 3 months of US challengers

I think thats needlessly pessimistic. Jamie's a different player to last year, as shown by the fact that he's 100 places higher in the rankings. Yes the loss was disappointing but you've already said it wasn't wholly unexpected so to then write off Jamie for the rest of the US challengers after just that match seems a bit premature to me.

The thing is Jamie made that 100 place rankings jump pretty much by February, and has plateaud since, which doesn't bode well for JAN/FEB 08 unless he scores some good points before Christmas.
I wasn't writing off Jamie for the rest of the US challengers, he's definately capable of going deep in a lot of these events....just saying that his recent track record in the challengers doesn't particularly bode well...the defeat to Jenkins wasn't wholly unexpected but as 75K draws go, this was a decent one...
I agree he's a much improved player from last year, just needs to find some more consistency at this level...he's had some great results this year....the runs in Hawaii and Joplin in Jan-Feb, qualifying for ATP Nottingham and coming close in US Open qualies but they've all been sporadic....he needs to string some of these runs together consistently to push on towards top 150.
