Week 41 - Womens ITF (25k) - Rockhampton, Australia

this is the first of many 25ks in a row in australia with all the same brits gone out for the long stint.

main draw

anne keothavong
sarah borwell

qualifying

olivia scarfi
jade curtis

thats all so there is probably not going to be that many brit v brit matches as there was last year in this patch when rather a lot went out and stoop won the last of the 25ks

There has been 125 withdrawals from this event so far!

She should ease through this draw, win the next two events will get her near the top 100.

There is another series of 3 25K events in November corresponding to those which attracted a large GB entry last year.

Anne in line for a lot of points here. Her main threat here i think is Erakovic. If she can win this one it sets up her confidence and she could get on a roll.

good effort from jade to qualify.

the reason why more brits havent gone here is because its such a risk. if you are low on confidence although they are known for weak draws low confidence will get you no-where, its so expensive to get out there and i would think jade gets funding but im not sure olivia scarfi would get complete funding does she trainat roehampton?

good luck girls in main draw hopefully anne k can do well here

Olivia :( Just hasn't been able to move on this year.

Jade:), Good chance for a win in the maindraw. But its still tough. I'd love her to break into the top 500 by 2008.

Great opportunity for Anne K to do
really well in these and push right to
the top 100.

That would be a super end to 2007
and a cracking start to 2008.

The heat there is sweltering, Olivia found it really tough in the qualies and it pretty much influenced the result of her final round match...dont think she'd have lost that otherwise

Anne coped impressively well after 3 weeks indoors ! Next up is Swiss Steffa Boffi who hammered Alison Bai (Aus) 6-2, 6-1....should be straightforward for Anne as Boffa is ranked 400ish, she made a 25K quarters in Spain in the summer but that's about it...did beat Fitzy 5 and 3 in Greece earlier in the yr

Jade has a decent draw for a 25K rd1. Barry made a 25K semi on clay earlier in the year but her form has been up and down since so it's not a bad rd1 draw for a challenger, some good runs in 10Ks this summer but so has Jade

Shock loss for Sarah...her opponent was a 16 year old, ranked 40 in juniors but would have expected Sarah to win comfortably...maybe she found the conditions tricky after all the indoor tourneys...hopefully its that and not injury

yeah, good wins for anne. she's actually 38 points from top 100 so just 2 wins could do it for her:)

Scarfi has been up at the NTC, most of the players have but isnt based there...she spends a lot of time at Pete Russel's academy, its same place where Bloomers trains.

Don't think she's LTA funded but could be wrong...I think they are helping her financially with this trip
