RE: Davis Cup: World Group Round 1 - Argentina v GB

Monaco sprained his ankle in the VdM doubles final so could be out of the Davis Cup tie - a ray of hope for GB wink

and if the bbc are to be believed, Monaco is out and replaced by Chela ranked in the depths of 86 in the world. Not sure it qualifies as a whole ray of hope though, maybe a speck. wink.gif

Not even reports that Murrays injured right knee stood up to a football kick-about at the Lawn Tennis Associations (LTA) National Training Centre at the exact time his agent, Patricio Apey, phoned in his unavailability for Britains first World Group tie in five years elicited any anger.

Murray has yet to withdraw from a tournament in Marseilles that follows next weekends inevitable thrashing in Buenos Airess Estadio Parque Roca; that has been noted, but not criticised. The same applies to the fact that Chilean-born

Apey agreed to be the teams interpreter and courier in Argentina, then opted to stay in London ashamed . Even the normally loquacious LTA chief executive Roger Draper would not answer questions on Murrays refusal to fly to Buenos Aires in the hope that he might be fit.

Look on the bright side -

Great Britain is the only nation to compete in every Davis Cup nana.gif
and has won nine Davis Cups, tying it for third with France in the list of most titles won.
The last time it won the title, however was 1936 and it is the only nation of the 12 champion nations not to win at least one title since the abolition of the Challenge Round (1972). {ignore this bit}
NB Played as British Isles from 1900 to 1912.

Winning is an objective point of view. If you class winning as something you do whilst displaying history, sophistication and culture then we are already the winners of this tie. If you class tennis ability, No of top class players and rubbers won as the decisive factors in winning a DC Tie then I think you need to seriously examine your attitude towards sport..

Britannia rules the waves.

i know its still 4 days away and we will most likley egt pasted but i am geting quite excited, like a little a baby sheddie when the ice cream van pulls up outside smile.gif

the bbc coverage doesnt look too promising tho, just from 1.30 to 5.15 is not very long for bbc2. Clay matches can take quite a while (wether they will in this case is doubtfull tho)

i assume that bbci and the website will cover it regardless of length?

Still boggo can bt chela on day 1, ross and sterch can whoopass in then dubs and baker can finish the job with a win over chlea on day 3. nalby can win his matches then stock up on krispy kremes to get over the defeat.

The BBC 2 coverage always appears to be limited but in the past they have tended to extend the coverage if the matches continue past the listed end time. Plus there will be full coverage on bbci so I don't think you need to worry about missing a ball CountZ..

Im also excited like you.. Maybe its just the possibility of watching tennis on terrestrial TV outside of the three slams that the BBC cover!.

GB for a 3-2 win!!?!

Aye, James, but ...  the only way we'll win this tie is if the referee allows

        Britannia to waive the rules.
