he could do a john terry! (cept he wouldnt get away with it in the media's eyes as he is not a darlign who can do no wrong)
so i guess its boggo and baker for the singles, and hutch bumped to play dubs with jamie. i wonder if they will call up another to be a 5th? its quite short notice isnt it.
i had thought andy was leaving it quite late to get over there, esp not playing VDM and with jamie being over there anyway.
with regards to andy if he isnt 100% then there is not point playing, he would be very unlikey to win a match, and under the most gruelling condtiond in tennis is only likely to worsen the situation., and we wouldnt winthe tie anyway.

We might as well pull out or concede or something. Bit of a waste of Boggo and Baker's time isn't it now when they could be playing a hard court challenger somewhere, it's not as if they don't need the points.
What a muppet. Knew he didn't want to play. I know I'll get some stick off plenty of you, but I just don't believe it. He's never really liked playing Davis Cup. Hope he never plays for GB again.

Rob Dee for the no. 5 slot, definitely - given that we aren't going to get anything else out of this tie except perhaps the odd injury and drop in the rankings, we might as well let him break the record in style!

"Taking this preventive measure is a very difficult decision but because I didn't play a full year last year, the next two months are very important if I am to maintain my chances of challenging the top players."
Murray's withdrawal is a massive blow to Britain's chances of success in their World Group first-round tie - their first in the elite section after a four-year gap.
Alex Bogdanovic is their next highest ranked player at 187, while Argentina will be led by world number 10 David Nalbandian.
Doubles specialist Ross Hutchins has been named as the fourth member of the GB team, joining Andy's brother Jamie, Bogdanovic and Jamie Baker.
Makes it even worse that his brother is playing, and he isn't bothered about leaving Jamie in the lurch to get embarassed 5-0. Does anyone really belive Andy isn't fit to play? Disgraceful imo

I don't know John, I certainly think DC isn't Andy's top priority but you'd be hard pushed to find a top 20 player for whom it is. Its a real shame and I'm very disappointed that basically we have no chance now but I still give Andy the benefit of the doubt that he really does have an injury and I'd rather he didn't play through that. But I completely understand your opinion and I do wonder if the decision would have been different if there were points on offer, and if Andy hadn't lost rd1 of the AO.
And I'm glad both Boggo and Baker get the chance to play a live rubber (even if they are lambs to the slaughter).
And I definitely back Dee for the 5th place, he's already in South America isn't he?

Does anyone really blame him? Bit harsh some of the comments...all this "hope he never plays for us again". He's got six months coming up that could realistically see him having a pop at the top 5 which is probably better publicity for the LTA and British tennis as a whole than winning a set or two in a 5-0 or 4-1 defeat down there. Which, let's face it, is what is likely to happen, Andy or no Andy. Us playing Argentines on clay is like sticking Sergi Bruguera on an old school wimbledon court and expecting him to challenge Goran Ivanisevic.
For christ sake, all this talk as if Andy playing would ruin his career somehow. The guy hasn't played for 2 weeks, by the time the tie comes around it will be almost a month. He should be fresh as a daisy. Don't know why we don't just wrap the poor dear up in cotton wool for 11 months of the year.

The withdrawal of Andy Murray from Britain's Davis Cup team to face Argentina in Buenos Aires on clay has forced balding captain John Lloyd to concede that they're 'in for a right royal hammering' just a few days before the explosive clash.
Great Britain, who go into the contest with Alex Bogdanovic and Jamie Baker as their number one and two, a situation Lloyd described as 'the stuff of nightmares', have been made five billion to one outsiders to emerge in glorious victory.
Speaking from the practice court whilst coaching his team, Lloyd spoke to TheSpoof.com: "Hopeless - that's what we are. I don't even want to go to Argentina but I have have to because it's my job. Once Andy (Murray) pulled out, I knew we were dead in the water. The best we can hope for from five matches is about six or seven games. If these two clowns (Bogdanovic and Baker) can manage that, then I'll consider my job done. Christ, where's that bottle of brandy!?"
The 53 year-old Lloyd, who hasn't picked up a racket since 1988, also revealed that he may be forced to play in a few rubbers himself 'if things get too embarrassing'.
"Yes, I'm ready to go up against Nalbandian or Acasuso or whomever. Let's face it, I will probably do as good a job as Laurel and Hardy over there. No! No! No, Bogdanovic! Remember what I told you! The handle of the racket is at the end WITHOUT the strings! Christ!"
Bogdanovic meanwhile, nicknamed 'Boggo' by his peers; a handle not derived from his surname but rather from the fact that most of his career earnings has come from cleaning the players' toliets at various tour events, says he will be able to cope with the pressure of the occasion: "I don't see any reason why I can't step up to the plate. I've been in difficult situations before; namely when there was a particulary nasty turd clogging the toilet in cubicle 7 at Wimbledon last year, but I dealt with the situation accordingly and was even commended by Rafa Nadal for the sterling job that I did on removing the unfortunate after-effects of a dodgy Indian curry. I'm ready for anything."
Argentina are expected to welcome Lloyd and co. with the usual good grace and hospitality that Argentinians reserve for the British.
